You've got some of the lines mixed up. The verse goes as follows:
Far have I travelled and much have I seen,
Goodison, Anfield are places I've been,
Maine Road, Old Trafford still echo to the sound,
Of the boys in the red shirts from the City Ground.
I think the trouble is that a lot of the younger fans don't even realise that the original version had a verse as well as a chorus. Either that or, if they do know, they can't cope with trying to remember any more.

Is it: "...still echo the sound" or "still ring to the sound", as "echo to" is one syllable too many....
Also, in my drunken state, I can't remember for the life of me how the 2nd verse goes, but hopefully someone can fill me in, so to speak!

That's the right version, however, like Flagman has queried, it should be "ring to the sound".
Shame the Soccer AM boys last year couldn't get the bloody words right
