I do believe there's a second verse too although that might have been made up by Alex. lol

You've got some of the lines mixed up. The verse goes as follows:

Far have I travelled and much have I seen,
Goodison, Anfield are places I've been,
Maine Road, Old Trafford still echo to the sound,
Of the boys in the red shirts from the City Ground.

Do we ever even manage to sing past the first 2 lines, it seems to die out after. lol

I think the trouble is that a lot of the younger fans don't even realise that the original version had a verse as well as a chorus. Either that or, if they do know, they can't cope with trying to remember any more.

This thread will now descend into the same discussion we had when (the real) Alex organised recording an up-tempo, punk-esque version of this at the arse end of last season..

Is it: "...still echo the sound" or "still ring to the sound", as "echo to" is one syllable too many....

Also, in my drunken state, I can't remember for the life of me how the 2nd verse goes, but hopefully someone can fill me in, so to speak! :D

This thread has FAR too many gory details!

That's the right version, however, like Flagman has queried, it should be "ring to the sound".

Shame the Soccer AM boys last year couldn't get the bloody words right

How about

Far have I travelled and much have I seen
From Madrid to Yeovil, and all inbetween
But no matter how far, or what I have found
I'll always return to the City Ground

This is the "full" version:

City Ground, oh mist rolling in from the Trent
My desire is always to be here
Oh City Ground

Far have we travelled & much have we seen
League One & Europe are places we've been
From Yeovil to Munich they echo the sound
Of the boys in red shirts from the City Ground

City Ground, oh mist rolling in from the Trent
My desire is always to be here
Oh City Ground

Fight through stormy weather, there through think & thin
We're on our way back to the days we knew then
Nights when we sang, with a beautiful roar
We'll follow our team & we'll sing once more

City Ground, oh mist rolling in from the Trent
My desire is always to be here
Oh City Ground

We laughed in the sunshine & smiled through the pain
We fought through the hard times, but memories remain
Flickering embers grow higher and higher
As we make our way back, to a fierce Forest fire

City Ground, oh mist rolling in from the Trent
My desire is always to be here
Oh City Ground

(First verse changed slightly in the last couple of seasons!!)

Isn't there a verse about cloughies men or something and one about the Trent end choir, when my brains more in gear I'll remember where I've seen the full thing written

On the pillar in front of you in the recording studio! lol

Your memory is worse then mine... That was far from the 'proper' version and used a lower league rehash of the first verse as the second...
i would prove it but the song still hasn't materialised.

Far have we travelled and much have we seen
Goodison, Anfield are places we've been.
Maine Road, Old Trafford still ring to the sound
Of the boys in the red shirts from the City Ground.

City Ground, Oh Mist Rolling in from the Trent
My desire, is always to be

Far have we travelled and much have we seen.
The Ricoh Arena and St. Mary's.
Pride Park, the Walkers are falling down,
