Exactly

They don’t want to sell him unless for silly money, and that’s their prerogative.
And they have seen the money we've been splashing this summer and that's why they're taking the mick! Not sure what isn't being understood about this....

I'm sure we've all sold items before online or in car boot sales. You see someone arrive with a Mercedes and you up your price. They'll try to haggle and get you much lower. That's why they have a Mercedes. You stick to your asking price no matter what. You see someone arrive with a Fiat Punto, and when they haggle you say 'Oh go on then, take it for lower'

Honestly, even with the deal like that, we're still probably closer to giving them £25m than £42m.
If the addons are stuff like
  • x if we stay up. There's an outside chance we do that.
  • x if MGW gets into the England Team. Again, outside chance of that.
  • x if we finish in the top half, unlikely again.
  • x if we finish in Europe, really unlikely.
Wolves probably would never get a return on that and contractually, if and when we sell him which would be quite likely if we go down, our obligations to Wolves end.

I don't think Forest can offer much more for one player, needing 3-4 still.
The more you offer for MGW, the less we have to go elsewhere.

If he was a proven Premierleague player, then fair fucks but it's literally risky business.

Unless he agitates for a move I don't think this is getting done. He'll sign a new deal when the window closes if not before.

I've already explained.

Would you want an unhappy and demotivated player at your club when you could take £42m for him? When he could be available for less than that next summer with only a year left on his contract?

Doesn't make sense. Would you say MGW's market value is £42m?
Well you're assuming he is unhappy and demotivated which to be honest I'm dubious about as you seem to be basing that on your own subjective appraisal of one game so far this season.

But even assuming he is, I say yet again, he is their asset. They will want to get the best price for him. They won't care one jot how happy he is, just how much they can get for him, especially if they think he doesn't want to be there. And crucially they know we want him.

It is rather un-caring and I don't think it does him any good as a person but that's the way football clubs are run these days.

And no MGW's market value is nowhere near £42m. As I have said these kind of figures are just paper talk. No way will Wolves be asking for that kind of money.

We are in a mini league with Wolves. Maybe they don't want to sell him to us because they don't want to strengthen us and increase their chance of relegation.

Maybe they want to keep him and are trying to price us out of it or maybe they really do value him at £40m or whatever it is.

It doesn't matter. It's their prerogative, they get to choose both the asking price and the decision to sell and us whining about it just comes across as entitled.

They keep rejecting our bids which for me were already well on the ridiculously high side. It's time to take the hint and move on.

Bit of an annoying article in the nep - forest fans telling the club to walk away from MGW deal at the reported 42m. Don't know what value you'd place on a player that Steve Cooper loves, knows his character, abilities and potential inside out and thinks he can build a successful Forest side around for the next 10 years. Fans talking about value, getting 2 for 1 for that price dahn the European market...

Tbf i'd walk away from it.

He's good. But hes not worth 42m yet.

By the sounds of it we aren’t offering £42mil YET though.

We are offering £25m, which would effectively become £42m when he either becomes a £42m player (performance based add ons) or contributes to successful campaign (team based add ons). Both are likely worth it.

I think it’s more that we will need to increase guarantees, up front payment etc. We will need to take some of the immediate financial risk to push this through

It's a state mass of hysteria where so many people actually put weight into their estimated valuations of how much this worth amd where the back-away point is.

Yeah it’s a funny old game.

Obviously it’s not our cash, so there’s that. EM can and will spend what he feels comfortable spending. Fair play, his shout.

The issue comes that the money goes through the club. The club (and by proxy EM) is responsible for honouring the financial commitment.

We as fans can’t help but worry what the financial outcome would be if things went wrong on the pitch. Does spending this here mean we can’t spend it elsewhere? Etc.

An interesting dichotomy to face and one over which we have no control.

Keep hitting refresh and let’s all buy Heffing Psycho a pint after the window SLAMS SHUT, in honour of the bandwidth he’s expended so we don’t have to.

Imagine if we sign him and he’s not amazing in the first game. It might break the Forest Facebook groups.

I think the worst thing about the MGW saga (besides this cursed thread) is that it is making us look a bit desperate and lacking a plan B. There's no wonder Wolves are trying to rinse us for every penny, and who can blame them? We are long past the point where we should have moved onto an alternative target.

He's not a proven Premier League player at the end of the day, he could just as easily become the next Rhian Brewster as he could be a success. There are other talented but equally unproven players out there in other leagues that might make the step up, are easier to acquire and far less risky financially. Time for the club to end its fixation with MGW.

It's a football forum. 999/1000 posts are opinion not facts. £25m+ is a lot of money by any clubs standard, let alone a prospective £42m for a club battling relegation.

I'm not asking for facts.

I'm simply observing that so many people have strong opinions about what this player is worth to the club when I suspect they have no real way to make a measured assessment of his value.

Yet, on the basis of zero insight into to the club's thinking on this, every man and gis dog is urging the club to move on.

It's a bit weird that everyone is so strongly invested in pricing this market.

And I'm not asking people to not have those opinions. I'm just saying what my opinion is in people having such opinions

I'm guessing if we offer £30m + £10m if we stay up + £10m if we finish top 10 we'll have our bid accepted.
Cooper, EM, MM and Dane will have a better idea of our finances so I'll let them worry about whether they think that's value or not.

The player appears to want to join us. Our manager appears to want the player. Our owner seems ok to back the manager but some fans think we'd be paying too much.

Wonder if fan power wins this one or if Coops gets his man. It's going to be interesting.

Judging by the longevity of this whole chase it sure feel like we’re after him and overall it feels like Cooper will get his man, eventually. No one has any clue what the offers have been so far though and it’s all just conjecture at what any final fee may be too. If Cooper wants him here then I want him here and that’s that.

Stop believing journalists / rumour mongers is all I’d say. It’s all a bit tedious hanging on every word of a bunch of oiks who know next to nowt.
