I'd say Wolves are taking the piss out of us. That or Brennan is now worth in excess of £30m too. And £15m for Davis isn't unreasonable in this parallel universe.

Clubs in England know Marinakis has money. The fees we're expected to pay become much higher because of it.
Brennan Johnsons value at this point would be far higher than MGW I'd suggest.

If Brennan Johnson replicates his form from last season, but this time in the top-flight, and has a decent World Cup campaign with Wales, then his value will absolutely go up.

A players value is whatever someones willing to pay, MGW isn't worth £30m at this point in his career which is why almost nobody has maintained interest except us

Wolves clearly don't want him to leave but as with all players there comes a price where you logically can't say no, I just hope if it's anything close to £40m we don't meet it. And i'm a huge MGW fan

I think they were very similar in terms of goals and assists totals.

I don't think we up our offer but tweak the structure of it. 30m is a lot and wolves know it. If only he had a buyout clause.

Unless we pay stupid money I can't see us getting him at the moment.

All indications are that if he gets game time he's happy to stay where he is. And Wolves apparently don't want to sell, though you can never tell in these sort of negotiations.

I reckon EM is good at this stuff, so there will be a point when he knows they won't sell or that the price is too high.

Wolves are on a knife edge, too, if the price is higher than their valuation and they are playing silly buggers to get it up even higher, they might be left with an 'asset' they don't really want; by that I mean they might have another player in their sights who was going to be purchased with the MGW money.

I think it would be fair to assume Johnsons impact last season was greater than MGWs?

I fully fledged international who will be playing at the world cup. Higher profile maybe?

I don't think it would be fair to say that, and if he performs at the WC absolutely but that's in the future.

BJ is worth about 40m as well then if Wolves are rejecting 25m + 10 in bonuses.

That’s a crazy sum of money for us right now. Id leave it and maybe come back in Jan if he still hasn’t signed a new deal.

£40m can buy you established top level talent. MGW is an exciting prospect and I wouldn't be surprised to see him fulfil his potential and double in value, but i'm not sure it's the right time for us to be taking the risk at that price

If we were on the back of a premier league survival season and had a core team developed we could perhaps afford to push the boat out but as things stand I think we're better off taking a step back

Would be ridiculous amounts of pressure on him to succeed with this kind of price tag

Agree with this, especially the point you make about the timing.

I think it’s been clear for a while now that if we get him, we will have to overpay.

But I imagine Cooper has told the club that he has the potential to be an England regular in the not-too-distant future and we are pricing him accordingly.

Talkshite will go wild when they find out we’ve paid 487 billion quid for him

His profile is not higher. The world Cup has not happened.
Disagree. Johnson is regularly talked about as one of the players to watch in the Premier league this season. When the papers have their "ones to watch" he's the man at Forest, MGW isn't the Wolves man. Johnson's profile is definitely higher, the media expects him to start and will focus on him, MGW doesn't get the same treatment.

Think 5 of Gibbs White's goals came as striker last season - had a great output there and assisted in that role too. He's a superb player - like BJ, well above the level he was playing at last year.

And as with BJ, his potential makes him expensive - how much someone would need to pay to prise Brennan away would have to be similarly ambitious. Of course, it doesn't always pan out, but I'd back MGW and BJ to reach similar elite levels - elite as in playing prominent roles for their countries and playing for/courted by club's who regularly win trophies.

MGW was the only player to make our defenders look like idiots last season, he pulled them all over the place and was playing out of position.

He was the only guy I watched in the Championship last year that you genuinely feared every time he got the ball.

I don't think there is much dispute around his quality.

This - it was like the Taarabt all over again. It looked easier for him than for anyone else in the league.

I think the kid is a smart player. Is he worth the money? Could be argued both ways. There is certainly better value to be had on the whole market but you have to price-in 'homegrown' tax (15-20%) and assumed value to us - wolves know Cooper wants him and will extract maximum value out of him based on recent history.
