I'm with the Cap'n on this. Brereton competed hard for his rubbish team. Fair enough.
He was better for them than Wood was for us. Much as my initial horror at the Wood signing has abated thanks to his goals, I still think he is a very limited player and needs replacing with someone who can trap a ball as well as score.

We’re 7 points above them based on the football Emmo so really not far off from where you think we should be. Not saying we’ve been good, we haven’t, but the artificial table because of the points deduction paints things in a different light than we should be seeing it.
I take your point completely but to we could potentially finish on less points this season than last even with our 4 points back. I just think that’s horrendous to be honest. Considering that teams should be getting more points from the bottom 3 because of how poor they’ve been. This season makes us look better than we are. Any other season we’d be bottom 3 right now. Of course I’ll take it but something needs to change.

Yeah being useless at set pieces (at both ends) is unsustainable. Missing the number of chances we have had over the last few weeks is unsustainable. As is a lot of the off field stuff they’ve had to deal with.

But in terms of the general pattern of play against good teams (blunts excepted) I genuinely don’t see much that is unsustainable at this level.
I think we’re a really talented squad. Maybe 75% complete. We need a summer reset, that starts off the field. All this outside noise is pissing everyone off. A clear focus on football is needed.

I don’t disagree either, we should have more points this season, but I also think the points deduction has taken more than 4 points off our total purely from the mental toll it’s created. We should undoubtedly have more points than we do but I think there are mitigating circumstances as to why we don’t. They just HAVE to get it right next season, this can’t be happening again.

True.

Plus, longer term if we did, I don’t really see the problem assuming it’s done in the correct circumstances, and we did it well.

The issue for me isn’t sitting deep, it’s the fact we can’t execute it well.

A team that can be very compact and sit deep against the best, then counter with pace and quality. Dangerous team but only if executed well.
our attacking under nuno has improved - cho has been more positive since nuno took over , wood was on form but is currently going through a bad run , precisely what lineker predicted and mgw was misused by cooper as a rw and wasn't at his best, has been good once restored to his no. 10 position in the middle but can be inconsistent in his shooting. The achilles heel remained the same as cooper - defending.

Combination for me. Certain defensive situations still. Lacks of clinical option up front. We are creating chances. As a collective forward group, we don’t put enough away.

Only just catching up with the game on MOTD

The ball from MGW for Wood to miss was sublime. Similarly, the ball for the header was perfect service. Wood will have had nightmares last night.

CHO takes both his goals well. Could have had a hatrick. It's lovely to have a technical goal Scorer.

Stuntman Yates deserved his 200th game goal.

How do we think the teams being promoted will perform next season?

I think Leicester will struggle again, it’s been mentioned that Ipswich will be in a similar position that we were in, having no parachute payments, so will be interesting to see how they cope. Not sure who the other one will be but I hope it’s not dirty Leeds.

Would love it if Brentford go down next year after they lose Toney and hopefully don't manage to replace him well.

I think the points total for survival next year will be low too - with the FFP thing and sides coming up (Norwich are the form team in the playoffs, despite being out of form!) the gap has widened again.

Very much so, something that Felipe was doing for us last season. On another linked area, I know that Niakhate obviously damaged his shoulder in preseason so he's but I've wondered if we've not utilised his hoofthrow since Felipe dropped out the side? He was the one that consistently won the first contact from them which caused so many issues.

I think it's been a few things. Felipe was so strong at under the ball but when Niakhate came back in the side they had him back on the throws and they were barely making the distance. Don't know if the power will ever come back fully but Aina has a great throw too.

Can't remember if the long throws were during a Taiwo period or not, but having him bullying two defenders at a time would have helped too.

Red side or the Trent podcast had the tagline “Scab and Grab” 😂 Love it. It is nice beating any South Yorkshire side, besides Wednesday they seem to be nice to us but I could be wrong.

I said that we were good enough for the win and we were. Delighted doesn't come close.

A decent day in Sheffield. A few silly kids and even sillier adult blokes having a go but it's not as bad as it used to be at Bramall Lane. Cops are still awful though.

I'm very pleased for Wednesday, a club that I like, so the fact that they have avoided the drop and will be playing the Blades next season is sweet. Hopefully we won't be playing either of them.

I was in the Main Stand yesterday but not in the posh seats. Toilet watch: better than the WFCG but still poor.

Why do South Yorkshire police have to draft in additional resources from Northumbria police for our games?

Old fashioned police walk back to the station after the match. Not so many blunts fans wanting to "have a go" unlike in previous years.

Kudos to the Forest boys that got seats in the upper tier. Not so good to the two Forest lads wanting it out at half-time.

Ipswich make me think of Burnley before promotion. Not sure if they will be able to play quite so freely in the Prem.

Haven't Leicester got PSR/FFP worries?

Huh? We went down in 92/3 with Pearce, Clough and Keane.

Getting relegated doesn't mean all of your players are shit, just too many of them.
Yep. He's got pretty good stats for a striker playing in the shitest team in the division with only a 3rd of a season to gel and yesterday he looked like danger every time he touched the ball.
Of course we are all looking at him like an ex that jilted us and then shagged half the town for laughs but I guarantee that if we bought him the first time he scored everyone would be singing 'He's one of our own' like he'd never wandered.
