Barkley looks to play for Luton like Lily Savage did for Derby, just moving round the midfield, collecting the ball and recycling it. Very effective and not doing an awful lot of running about. The running is done by the enthusuastic young players alongside him. The way to shackle him would be to man mark, to allow him to drift around seems daft. If he's stopped, they don't have much other footballing brain.

MGW is pecisely the opposite. He is constantly moving, prompting, setting up attacks, defending when necessary and generally providing the team with an energetic heart.

If he wasn't on the pitch, who would get the team moving? He is as necessary to us as Barkley is to Luton, but both operate in a defferent way.

To say this season has been disappointing is an understatement and I get that there is a lot of frustration but think some people need to get a grip.

Scapegoating MGW is embarrassing. Saying if we stay up we don’t deserve it is embarrassing. Saying Murillo is the only good thing to happen since coming up is embarrassing.

When we went up I was so full of pride about our club and for a 2 year period our fans were incredible (really the first time I have seen such unity in my adult life). But quick as a flash we have reverted to infighting, bitching, moaning and hanging players out to dry. The players might not be the only ones who don’t deserve to be in the top league

Mini tournament coming up. Let’s hope they give it everything, but unless we actually have the mentality to win games we’re down anyway.

My question is the same as previously with Cooper, does Nuno have any confidence Forest are able to score more than one goal? Is he going to set up defensively and negatively? He’s f**ked it with the supporters if that’s the case. We’re f***ing bored with it

I've not seen anyone scapegoating MGW we wouldn't be out the relegation zone without him imo but alot of us me included believe his time on set pieces is up its juat not working Currently toff taking the left sided ones earlier in the season was working better.
But I definitely wouldn't want to watch this forest team without him in the 11

Great in open play (although sometimes those flicks things are a bit in the overplaying side when a simple pass is the better option) but utterly dog shit at corners and free kicks.

But the we’re dog shit at set pieces both ends of the pitch.

Only Forest could take over a year to get a set piece coach and then not use him. From what I’ve read, he was a Cooper choice and Nuno has frozen him out

I agree this is the time to get some momentum, a run going.

I always say the way to give us an idea how a season will pan out in the league is to wait for at least ten games to be completed. Well, this time it's the final ten games coming up which will decide our season.

We looked a team devoid of confidence but so were Luton especially after the midweek result. Horrible watching another match where the opposition has more fight in them than us. Had the chances to put the game to bed then undone by more schoolboy defending from a corner.

Part of me hopes the deduction puts us in the bottom three as that might actually wake some of the squad up to the seriousness of the situation.

Yes, but apart from those few Luton don't have any
Andover, I’m all for you trying to add some positive spin (forum needs every angle to keep it interesting) but this isn’t the hill to die on!

If you go on any of the injury tracking websites, Luton are top of the injury table and even with my minimal knowledge on them I recognise 6/7 names that have been starting for them.
3 starters - take your pick of two centre backs and Adebayo. You could argue we still have two starters out in Tavares and Aina.

Lockyer, Osho, Bell, Lokonga, Nakamba and Adebayo the most notable iirc

But they can’t all play - you have named 3 defenders and two midfield players. For them all to play the likes of Mendi and Barclay would be left out.
It would certainly strength the bench and give options.

Been reported elsewhere in places like the Athletic that Marinakis was very frustrated about set piece incompetance and attempted to foist...

And therein lies the problem.

We were ticking along for 1PPG before Marinakis once again stuck his oar in, and on that sort of trajectory we'd have been 14th now and basically one win from safety.

Ah well, at least Marinakis managed to massage his own ego.

23 years out of the Premier League for the mighty reds and all I see on here is a lot of whinging from so called fans. Yes I was very disappointed and yes angry after the Luton match but now is the time for every Forest fan to get behind the players and bring back fortress the City Ground. I am in my late 70s and did not think I would see Forest in this league so come on everyone let’s make the next nine matches our cup finals.

No need for melt downs yet.

If the worst happens, I don't see more than a few players leaving as whilst I believe the players and squad are mid table PL as a collective, break them up and I don't see many top half teams wanting our players - Murillo may be the only one.

Lots of negativity around.

We had so many opportunities to win the game.

Sadly we have dropped four points against Luton due to two managers making the same error - defensive substitutions late on.

It’s so obvious against Luton - don‘t defend deep and stop the crosses into our box.

I‘m disappointed with the draw but it’s still in our hands.

Two other disappointments yesterday:

1. Our players falling out with each other demonstrably on the pitch.
2. Although the support was very good for most of the game, there are those with very loud opinions about certain players throughout the game, and especially after the final whistle which discouraged players coming to the away fans.

Part of me seriously wonders if there is something in MGWs contract stating he needs to take them, in order to help his assist stats (and thus worth/value) 🤷‍♂️
Wouldn't surprise me - it's called a "Beckham Clause".

Whatever your personal feelings this morning, most folks keep circling around the same tactical challenges.

The single most obvious step the team could take that will reassure people like me is not to keep making our most gifted player into a public joke by mandating him on all set pieces. That's not because it's the biggest issue we have by any means, but it suggests a fundamental problem in how we go about our job when the outcome is so obvious to everyone and it's one of the easier things to try something else on. Do something about that and I can believe that the team will do enough about the bigger issues such as defensive naivety.

I'm an optimist and I can't accept any notion that going back to the Chamionship is a good thing, just as I don't buy the modern view that it's better to go out of cup competitions - Forest exists to succeed at the highest level of whatever football there is to play.

But I'm picking on the set pieces since I'm afraid it's become the symbol for our failures this season - failure to learn and failure to improve enough to consolidate our position. Corner to Forest, free kick to Forest...rinse and repeat. A definition of madness is keep doing the same thing and expect a different outcome.

Now show us. COYR.
