Macron Stadium

Drove down the M61 yesterday and noticed that the Reebok Stadium is now the Macron Stadium. That will take some getting used to after something like 20 years.

From what I heard it hasn't gone down too well. Reebok has been associated with the town of Bolton for over 100 years apparently.
Not a bad stadium at all but I did like Burnden Park, it was a proper old school ground.

Thought it was only around the 10 years or so, but a quick google told me it was 1997 when named reebok, so 17 years.

Seems like they are going to change it every time they get a new kit deal, imagine if Forest did the same... Maybe Fawaz is thinking about renaming the City Ground!

If you have a traditional old school ground like we do, then the naming rights are sold, it would most likely always be known as the city ground. But when your ground has only ever been known as the Reebok stadium, then you sell the rights to a new sponsor with a shit name like macron, you are truly f**ked. What a shit name for a ground.

Reebok originated in Bolton. Imagine Boots or similar with a Nottingham team?

No wonder my post count..
I originally thought that but in this case its not quite that, there has been a Reebok factory in Bolton for decades and the brand is associated with the town beyond BWFC.

Yeah its disappointed a fair few of my friends but they'll still refer to it as the Reebok.

However, I do remember most fans refused to refer to it as the Reebok when they moved from Burnden Park and look how that turned out.

It sounds like a fairly good deal. I imagine it the stadium and kit manufacturer was all part of a package deal which Bolton could afford with all the debt.

Also, it could be worse. You could be an Oldham fan.

When I went to Burnden Park it had a Normid supermarket at one end.

Reebok is Bolton. Macron is Italian. How did they lose the Reebok deal anyway?

Reebok actually stopped making their kits a few years back, but they continued to sponsor their stadium (I think Adidas have been their kit makers until recently?). Clearly Reebok now want f*** all to do with them.

Reebok actually pulled out of football kit production after being taken over by Adidas. That is why Bolton started wearing Adidas for a few seasons.

Yes, that's what crossed my mind when I read the comment about it being a proper old school ground. I think it was a Spar supermarket once when I went, probably the 5-2 League cup win in '91.
I went for a third division play off semi-final between Bolton and Notts County. I went in my Forest tracksuit and we sat in the top corner of that stand opposite the camera.
