Can't say I'm surprised, I thought it was a crazy idea as soon as I heard of it and I didn't expect any of the football ruling bodies to let them go ahead with it anyway.

I would have thought the solution would be obvious if they wanted to do something like this. Try to find a high-ish profile team for a friendly and allow the fans to bid for that. Affecting the outcome of a friendly isn't going to make any difference to the outcome of an important game. Plus you could probably have more than just one person in the squad. Most of us would consider even that to be a fantastic experience.
