Luke Jephcott

I was surprised to hear on The Athletic podcast that we're in for Plymouth striker Luke Jephcott.

This even has a mention in the NEP, but that's not something I read much these days. Even those **** at **** have covered it.

So I was surprised he doesn't yet have a thread on here.

What's happening? Who's in charge here?

According to Pilgrim's boss, Ryan Lowe, in Plymouth's local paper, he's not available. Until you realise he is for £3.5m.

He's apparently the 'hottest property in the country' according to Lowe as reported here by the BBC.

Seems like he's availablefor the right price and they're trying to inflate his value.

I can't find a video compendium of his goals and assists, so does he even have an agent?

If we don't buy him now, will he be forever on Alf's lists of major regrets?

I demand answers.

Yep, for me that is pretty much a "for sale at the right price" sign. Probably can get him for less than £3.5m in the current climate too (given how much lower league clubs are struggling financially with no fans currently able to attend games).

The sort of player I'd like us to sign, but know full well that we won't.

In the manner of Ted Dibiasie, everyone’s got a price.

When you’re a piss-poor lower-league club, you’ll not be turning down bids for any players that meet your valuation.

Don't really know a great deal about him but I think the next striker we sign is an important one, they're likely to be the Grabban replacement, I'd want us to sign someone getting a bit closer to their prime if we have the money, it's a gamble signing a 21 year old with one decent season at a lower level under his belt, unless we can sign another like Taylor on a free/ cheap to bridge the gap in the meantime.

Am I correct that Jephcott and Will Swan played together at Truro, and by all accounts were equally successful?

Jephcott got 5 in 18, Swan 9 in 9. A shame Swan isn't on loan in league one so we can get an updated comparison.

No, I read that was the case, but it was not so.

Swan was signed on loan to replace Jephcott when he returned to Plymouth

Jonny Owen with his welsh cred and Paul McGregor with his Plymouth links need to get down there and frog march this yoof up to the City Ground as soon as the transfer window opens.

I think its safe to say that our big money signing (relatively speaking) this summer is likely to be a striker. I think we're unlikely to get anyone good from the Championship (given our likely budget constraints) and overseas signings are more complicated now as a result of Brexit, so you'd hope that a promising lower league striker like this Jephcott lad is on our radar at least.

I was reading the other day how his form’s gone right off the boil recently. Don’t want to end up with another Zac Clough flash in the (toilet) pan.

If we are looking at him, hopefully he’s been thoroughly scouted.
