At this rate, it may take half the time to do the round-ups!

Officially returning to Forest are:
Alex Mighten
Oli Hammond
Hwang Ui-jo

Scarpa and Shelvey have left permanently.

There are rumours surrounding Dennis and Laryea returning, and who knows what's going on with Freuler.
Freuler is doing really well for Bologna who themselves are 5th and are also doing well as a team too. As we got Dominguez out of the deal it seems like everything on this one so far is working out for all parties as he seems happier in (Possibly more suited to as well) Italian football.

My reasons for doing this are to keep an eye on the kids and see if any of the more experienced loanees can push for the first team squad or increase their monetary value. It's been pretty poor on all counts. From what I've seen and read so far none of the kids are anywhere close and the only two older loanees to really impress have been Freuler and Shelvey (who it turns out wasn't even on loan, and even Freuler may not be a loan). If anything, most of them have lost value rather than gained. Anyways, just a few random thoughts. Here's the latest.

Omar Richards came on after 71 minutes of Olympiacos' 1-0 away defeat at the hands of Lamia in the Greek Super League. In their next league game against AEK Athens, he entered the fray after 83 minutes, replacing Francisco Ortega. Omar started our sister club's 1-1 cup draw with arch rivals Panathinaikos, lasting 56 minutes. This seems to be his only start for Olympiacos to date. He didn't feature in their next two games, a 3-2 away win at Kifisia in the league and the second leg of the cup tie against Panathinaikos, which they lost on penalties on Jan 17. Sounds like he was rested against Kifisia but missed the cup game due to injury (feeling discomfort).

Remo Freuler played the full 90 as Bologna lost 3-0 away at Udinese in Italy's Serie A. He again lasted the full game when Bologna drew 1-1 at home to Genoa. No goals or assists for Remo in his side's cup defeat at Fiorentina - they lost on penalties. He again featured for 90 minutes in this one, which he also did in Bologna's latest match, a 2-1 away loss at Cagliari.
Including him in the round-up, but his contract situation remains unclear. The club originally announced he'd left permanently but Bologna said it was a loan. Given what happened with Shelvey, who knows?

Winger Josh Bowler played the first hour of Cardiff City's 2-0 home defeat to Leicester in the Championship. He came on for the final 30 minutes of his side's next game, a 2-1 away victory at struggling Queens Park Rangers. Bowler lasted the full 90 of the Bluebirds' 4-0 thrashing at Sheffield Wednesday in the cup, and was hooked after 74 minutes of their latest game, a 3-0 loss to Leeds United at home.

Lewis O'Brien made Middlesbrough's matchday squad for their 1-0 home win versus Chelsea in the EFL Cup. This was the first time he's been involved since September due to injury. He was also an unused substitute in his side's latest match, a 3-1 win against Millwall at the New Den.

Loic Mbe Soh didn't make the pitch for Dutch side Almere City's 1-0 win at FC Volendam in the Eredivisie. He played 72 minutes of their 2-1 cup defeat against Fortuna Sittard.

Right back Fin Back returned from injury to play the last seven minutes of Carlisle United's 2-1 away loss at Barnsley in League One. He missed just under two months with a quad problem.

Young Aaron Donnelly entered the fray after 77 minutes of Dundee's 2-2 draw at Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premier League.

Dale Taylor was replaced by Lyle Taylor after 76 minutes of Wycombe Wanderers' 0-0 away draw with Leyton Orient in League One. He then played for 72 minutes of Wanderers' 3-2 home win versus Bristol Rovers and lasted the full 90 in his side's 1-1 draw at Burton Albion. Dale again played the full game in Wycombe's 2-1 victory over West Ham United's U21s in the EFL Cup and scored his side's only goal in a 1-1 tie at home to Lincoln City. It was his sixth of the season.

Many thanks for that Sammy.

For the kids, I did a bit of a survey on other fan forums for some candid feedback on how they're performing. I've cut and pasted most of the relevant comments below so you can make your own minds up.

The Dark Blues (Dundee)
Aaron Donnelly

I saw him play 90 mins away to Livingston and thought he was very good. Confident and happy to keep the ball. Not seen much of him since due to postponed games etc.

Yes, agree with BCG in that he looks a fine prospect. Looks comfortable and composed at CB and may well end up playing LB or LWB for us.

Played 1 game at left back and struggled, albeit v Rangers at Ibrox. Rest of the time he has been left side of a 3 and generally done pretty well. Can be a little bit careless in possession sometimes but has been quite solid defensively. Hoping we sign a left back to replace Owen Beck as don't think Donnelly at left back would be good for us, or him, long term.

Decent looking prospect but a wee bit rash with his distribution when under little pressure and not too comfortable on his weaker foot. Done ok without being outstanding.

He's been pretty good generally except vs the Old Firm along with most of our other players. He doesn't have the pace for LB or lwb but has looked quite good at lcb.

Yes agree re left back. Maybe the new left wing signing is to be developed into a left back? Pace and an engine are critical for the modern 3 5 2.

The Gasroom (Wycombe Wanderers)
Dale Taylor

Working hard but not producing at the moment as we were using him as a lone striker while Sam Vokes was injured...a job he does not seem suited for. Now Vokes is back I hope he can push on. (I must caveat this before it is pointed out by adding I am an old Red in Bucks and so may be giving him more slack than others!!

Bloody hell, there's more Forest fans than Wycombe on here now. Agree with @Wendoverman mostly. We have seen some flashes of brilliance from him, especially his brace in the pizza cup recently, but we've not had much of a chance to play to his strengths yet so in a lot of games he's been a bit lost though no fault of his own. When playing in a role that suits him, surrounded by players that know what he's going to do, I think he's pretty good. Would like to see him pick the ball up and take people on a bit more as he looks to be built like a shed with a low centre of gravity and pretty quick feet.

He's done OK, but would not be in our starting 11 if everyone was fit.

Has shown glimpses of being a good player, but all too often has struggled to impose himself. I suspect although he's not been injured himself, he's been a victim of the absence of many of our better players. No coincidence that he played one of his best games for us on Monday with Sam Vokes playing alongside him. If we can keep the likes of Vokes and Potts fit, it'll be interesting to see if he can push on in the 2nd half of the season.

I think Monday was the best I've seen him. Seemed to relish playing alongside Vokes and not having to be the one fighting giant centre halves all game.

I think he still needs to figure out what kind of player he is. His physical size does not allow him to be a target man, he’s not blessed with pace, but he does have a good shot on him. He’s got a lot to learn still but playing off Sam Vokes he looked far more threatening.

We saw a glimpse of what’s possible at the start of the second half against Rovers when Vokes flicked a perfect header into Dale’s path but unfortunately he blazed his shot off target.

I think the responses so far are fine examples of diplomacy.

Not from me. I think he's shown glimpses of a good player but my glass is generally half full...

There is no question of his effort, enthusiasm or professionalism. We haven’t played a system which has suited him, so might not be getting the best out of him, but he looks well below Championship standard as things stand, let alone Premier League. There’s a half decent League 1 player in there (in the present; he may well develop more quickly in the next six months), but he needs to play a lot closer in proximity to Vokes or another physical striker in order to flourish. That hasn’t happened enough this season. He’s much better out of possession than in possession.

He has only just turned 20 don’t forget. Learning from Vokes should be the making of him. Vokes for a mature player is still very effective when closing down defenders and keepers. Taylor younger and fitter seems far less effective at defending from the front.

Dale is a hard worker who puts in a shift up front. Looks like he could be a good finisher and gets his shots away. But playing up front on his own against giant League One Centre Backs he is struggling.

I think it is safe to that with the exception of Potts none of the loan players we have will threaten their parent club first team any time in the near future.

I agree with @Forest_Blue, every time I have seen Dale Taylor play, you can see the effort in the performance that he's putting in, even though we have played the wrong formation and/or tactics for him. He never gives up and while things don't go his way, I don't recall seeing a half-efforted attempt at winning the ball or chasing something down. However, play alongside Vokes and other experienced professionals is only going to improve him. We have seen with players, like Philips on Monday, where they come on and go through the motions but leave a lot left to give on the pitch. Potts has def been the diamond this season and been a cut above all of those he's played against and around. We often get these players, Eze & Steven Taylor were both in the same boat and they went on to bigger things / playing regularly for their side after us.

I reckon he'll go on have a good career in League One or Two, which is a great achievement. He doesn't have quite enough natural ability to make it in the Championship, although he has a really good touch and can dribble in tight areas well. For a Championship player he'd needb to have more physical presence, better finishing and better link up play.

If someone wants to mould him into a busy midfielder with goal threat the boy could do good I think!

Saying that about a striker is like saying a keeper is a "good shot stopper".

I thought he had a very goo game at Peterborough away (2-2). Works hard and obviously talented but not suited to League 1/our "style"

I just think Dale needs a little luck. He works very hard and I hope he can flourish alongside Vokes.

The Robins Nest Forum (Cheltenham Town)
Oli Hammond (now of Oldham Athletic)

1. I wouldn't say he was ever a regular. At the start of the season he played more because we had fewer players available. Bonds was injured and Pett hadn't been signed. To be honest, I don't think you can read much into this loan spell. He wasn't what we needed and we, the state that we were in, weren't what he needed. If anything, the spell may have toughened him up and given him some things he would never have experienced in football before - after all, no team had gone 11 games without a goal from the start of a season for 30-odd years, so hes one of a few players with that under his belt...

Loan ended because the new boss wants more experience to get us out of the s#!t and, in his words, we haven't got time to spend on young players, hoping they'll come good. To be honest, Hammond didn't really show anything when he was with us but, given the situation and team he spent most of his minutes playing in, I wouldn't write him off.

2. As Shade says, we weren't right for each other. We needed some grit in the middle and, as technically sound as he is, Hammond just wasn't that. He picked up a niggle early on in his loan and by the time he came back we were very much in the doldrums. Funnily enough, his best performance was probably his cameo at the end of the game against Reading on Friday evening. I'd suggest a loan at a decent League 2 team will sort his confidence out - there's a player there, we just didn't see much of it.

3. Couldn't question his commitment but it seemed like a first time loan where he wasn't ready for league one and should have gone to a league two team first. He didn't have the physical side of the game and mentally he appeared to be a bit slower than the rest of the players on the pitch in terms anticipation and movement. As I say he would try hard to was difficult to get on his back and I doubt fans here would vilify him it just was too far too soon. Maybe we are being harsh but we've had some top quality loans in recent years and he was a massive regression to that standard, not his fault you have to blame the recruitment team here who I can only assume never watched him play and just went on his U-23 stats for you. Agree with others his best performance was probably his final game when he came off the bench last week.

4. Perhaps just a tad harsh. He was no worse than anyone else in those first 11 games. But as others have said DC came on and went for experience to get is through the dog fights. The fact that all loans that we could return, have been returned either shows the recruitment was poor or that it is just a season where we need something else.

5. Just don't think Hammond, or most of them, got the opportunity to bed in and show what they could do. Mainly because we were fire fighting from the very start.

6. Hammond was different to most of the others because he seemed on the radar from early on. Williams and D'Auria-Henry for example were panic signings when Liam Smith got injured. He looked ok at first, got his injury against Reading and then came back to a team in complete turmoil. When DC came in, he realised we're in a fight and young loanees are rarely the best option in that scenario. Hammond will go on to have a decent career, we were just the wrong club at the wrong time.

The Buzz is Back (Carlisle United)
Fin Back

1. I know some folk will disagree, he's loved here for his attitude rather than his ability in my view - however.... I really feel missing pre-season was the factor which influenced his level of performance for us this season (which was poor). In fairness he was probably working his way up to match fitness. The brutal truth however, is that he struggled to recapture his form from last season where his physicality and hard running made him an asset as a wing-back (especially with his contribution in the final third). This year he wasn't the only one who struggled with the (surprisingly) large step up in standard from tier four to tier three. But his technical ability was found wanting as was his positioning, awareness and defending. Potentially there's still probably a player in there (if he can stay fit) but I'm doubtful if he could ever go higher than tier three, maybe tier two at a push with significant development.

2. I really like Fin Back, last season he was instrumental when he was fit. A willing runner going forward and competent at the back. This season he struggled a bit before he was injured, albeit in a struggling team, but I do think he’s better than anything we have at the club at the moment. It would be unfair to judge if he can make the step up to this league on the few games he played for us. Hopefully he will get a run of games over the back end of the season. (Looking at end of January I think when he could be fit again).

3. When I’ve seen him quite impressed as both a defender and “wing back”. My concern is his physical robustness as struggles to stay fit.

4. Ellis is a better defender by a country mile. Back arguably better in possession. I'd probably prefer last season's Back in the team ahead of this season's Emmanuel. Emmanuel's performances have been ropey at best.

5. Wasn’t the same player when he came back from injury, although it may have been more psychological than physical. Tackles that he used to fly into he was much more hesitant and there were much fewer charges down the right. It looked like he was regaining his old self before his latest injury. The regular injuries have probably dashed a chance of making it at Forest and even the championship may be a push at this point but very possible depending on his fitness. If Forest let him go at the end of the season I’d be happy to get him on a permanent deal but there may be an argument that having him and Jack Elllis wouldn’t be beneficial for eithers development.

6. Count me in as a Fin Back fan although injuries have spoilt his time here. I think people forget he's only in his second pro season so he's been learning on the job if you will.

7. Can't really add a massive amount to what's already been said.
He was excellent last season and it was a big blow when he picked up the injury, however Ellis did fill in very well until he was also injured., after that RB was a bit of an issue for us until Senior our 3rd choice pulled a couple of cracking performances in the playoffs pretty much out of nowhere. Last season Back was very tenacious, decent in the tackle and always looking to get into advanced positions and his final delivery was pretty decent. This season he didn't hit the ground running and along with our LB and others seemed to really struggle with the pace and physicality of L1. However he was starting to improve before unfortunately another injury.
If he can get back to the form of early last season then I think he could possibly play championship football, whether the injuries will hold him back only time will tell.

8. For a 21 year old I think he’s a great find. He’s maybe not going to pull up any trees at Forest so I think sadly you’ll have to let him come here permanently
:)

He’s very attack minded, often getting to the by-line. He can take a player on and put a good tackle in too. Admittedly he wasn’t quite as good at the start of this season, but you would think having seen some of his performances last season and his age there’s a player in there to really develop. Seemingly a very good attitude and has apparently taken to Carlisle too.

9. He's a hard working competitive young player. If he stays clear of injuries will have a career in the game. Hard to say at what level because he did well at L2 but has been inconsistent at L1. Time is on his side but I'd be surprised if he reached PL standard.

10. The best compliment I can give Fin is I’d have zero complaints if we signed him on a permanent in the Summer.

11. He's understandable been playing with fear after his injuries. I've seen it happen with players in the past. Hopefully he will be able to get his confidence back once he gets an injury free run in the team.

12. A fit and competitive Back walks into our team, unfortunately that is the issue. Forrest obviously see potential, this season and part of last they were keen on restricting him playing too many games in a short playing span ,this suggests he may have a weakness in that area. However he may have been just unlucky with injuries, still a young lad so time will tell.

13. Good player but is a bit injury prone.

14. As is the usual Law of Sod, he seemed to be over his niggles and on an upward performance curve culminating in an excellent performance as part of our 2-1 home win over Burton, the game he picked up his current injury.

15. Need to start using his full name. Send Fin Back. Too many injury prone liabilities in the squad. Wonder how long before Kayode is injured again.

Josh Bowler came on as a second half sub (66 minutes) in Cardiff City's 3-1 away defeat to Plymouth Argyle in the Championship. Josh started the Bluebirds' next game at Watford and scored a cracking winner in a 1-0 victory. He was subbed on 73 minutes. Posters on the Cardiff City forum say Bowler was quiet until he scored, but some see him as a flair player who can win games if the team play to his strengths.

Lewis O'Brien continued his comeback from injury by coming on in the 81st minute of Middlesbrough's 1-1 home draw with Rotherham United. He entered the fray after 71 minutes of his side's 6-1 defeat at Chelsea in the semi-final of the EFL Cup, and after 77 minutes in their 1-1 home draw with rivals Sunderland in the league.

Emmanuel Dennis came on in the 76th minute of Watford's 1-1 draw at home to Southampton in the FA Cup, crossing the white line at the same time as Tom 'man-of-the-match' Ince. Emmanuel played the last five minutes of his team's next Championship game, a 0-0 at Sheffield Wednesday, and the last half an hour of a 0-1 defeat at Cardiff City. He wasn't in the squad for Watford's 3-0 loss at Southampton in the FA Cup replay.

Omar Richards didn't feature in Olympiacos' 2-1 defeat at Aris or their 3-1 home win against Giannina in the Greek Super League. He started their most recent game, a 2-0 away defeat at Panathinaikos, but was substituted at half time. As mentioned elsewhere on the forum, he didn't have a good game.

Loic Mbe Soh was an unused replacement in Almere City's 0-0 home draw with Fortuna Sittard in the Dutch Eredivisie. He played the full game in their 2-0 away defeat at PSV Eindhoven, but just posted a 5.8 rating on Flashscore. Loic came on for the last three minutes of his team's latest game, a 2-1 home win against Excelsior.

Scott McKenna played the first 64 minutes of FC Copenhagen's 5-4 win against Elfsborg in the Atlantic Cup. He then played for 74 minutes of his side's 3-1 win against Molde in the same competition.

Jonathan Panzo played the last 29 minutes of Standard Liege's 2-2 away draw with RWDM in the Belgian Pro League.

Orel Mangala made his debut for FC Lyon in their 2-1 home win against LOSC Lille in the French Cup on Wednesday. He played for 64 minutes.

Joe Worrall made his debut in the dying minutes of Besiktas' 2-1 win at Antalyaspor in the Turkish Cup. Britt Assombalonga was on the opposing team.

Fin Back played for 73 minutes of Carlisle United's fifth defeat in a row, a 3-2 loss at Leyton Orient. He didn't feature in their previous fixture, a 4-1 home defeat against Bolton.

Aaron Donnelly was an unused substitute in Dundee's most recent game in the Scottish Premiership, a 2-0 defeat at St. Mirren. He didn't make the squad for the Dens Park men's previous four games.

Dale Taylor played the full 90 in Wycombe Wanderers' 1-0 loss at Wigan Athletic, their 2-2 draw at home to Fleetwood and their 3-1 win at Cheltenham Town, all in League One. He scored the fourth goal in Wanderers' 4-1 win at home to Brighton U-21 in the EFL Trophy.

Alex Mighten came on at half-time in Port Vale's 3-0 loss at Fleetwood Town in League One. He made it onto the field after 81 minutes of their 1-0 home defeat to Leyton Orient.

Brandon Aguilera scored a spectacular goal on his debut for Bristol Rovers as they recorded a 1-0 victory at Exeter City. Brandon also played the full 90 in Rovers' most recent game, a 2-0 home loss to Fleetwood Town.

Julian Larsson made his debut for Morecambe in their 2-1 away win at Crawley Town in League Two. He was subbed in injury time and got a 6.5 flashscore rating.

He wasn't in the squad for Watford's 3-0 loss at Southampton in the FA Cup replay.

So, I'd be interested to know how this fits with FIFA's 7 loan limit - as many of them of over 21?
I think it breaks down something like this...

7 allowed senior loans (Bowler, O'Brien, Dennis, Richards, Mbe Soh, McKenna, Panzo)
Additional senior loan allowed because of obligation to buy (Mangala)
Unlimited club trained or U21 loans (Worrall, Back, Donnelly, Taylor, Mighten, Aguilera, Larsson)
