BLUNDER ref Stuart Attwell is in line for a shock PROMOTION — to the FIFA list.
The under-fire whistler — who awarded the goal that never was at Watford earlier this season — has been put forward to become one of England’s representatives on the select group of the world’s top officials.
If FIFA approve the move Attwell, 25, could be placed in charge of prestigious internationals and World Cup qualifiers.
His nomination has been sanctioned by refs’ chief Keith Hackett and the FA.
But it is certain to stun fans, players and managers — who have been on the receiving end of some of Attwell’s outrageous decisions this season.
The ref awarded Reading a goal at Watford in September — even though the ball went 4ft wide.
After being taken out of the firing line and put in charge of lower league matches for a couple of weeks, he returned to Championship action — and controversy — last Tuesday when he sent off QPR’s Mikele Leigertwood in the Londoners’ 1-0 victory over Birmingham at Loftus Road.
And Attwell sparked even more fury when he took charge of Sunday’s derby bet-ween Derby and Nottingham Forest at Pride Park when he sent off Forest’s Lewis McGugan, disallowed two goals and gave a penalty that never was.
Is this a joke! i fort he would get sacked LOL!
