Kyriakos Dourekas - Director of Football

Nottingham Forest are delighted to confirm that Kyriakos Dourekas has been appointed as the club's Director of Football.

Dourekas has spent 25 years with Olympiacos FC and during his time with the Greek giants, he has experienced multiple successful campaigns, including 19 league championships and 17 seasons in the UEFA Champions League.

He has vast knowledge and experience of European football at an elite level and worked alongside managers such as current Barcelona head coach Ernesto Valverde, recent Monaco manager Leonardo Jardim, former Marseille and Malaga manager Michel, and the current Everton boss Marco Silva.

Surprised he’s in as DoF but it does make sense. Especially with the Head Scout coming in the other week.

With AK saying his today that his mood last week during the interview wasn't due to personal reasons I wonder whether he had been told about this and wasn't happy?

No, he was here before the Villa game.

GBG actually broke this story on here three or four weeks ago. He also implied that KD's job description was more of player liaison-type role.

Technically that don't mean a thing. Could have taken him a week to assess the situation and then dropped whatever bomb shell that the owner wanted.

Just stop...

From PT

Dourekas has already been working behind the scenes for a week or two at the CG. Told he already has a good working relationship with Aitor Karanka. They have a mutual friend in Christian Karembeu, who has been working in an advisory role at Olympiacos in recent times.

Seems indicative that we may be looking more into foreign markets then? New Head Scout is a Scandi specialist and new DoF (which seems odd btw considering the job GBG said he did at Oly) seems to have more contacts on the continent than here.

DoF role varies from club to club. Some have them running the entire club and shaping the team others just have them keeping everybody happy. What with the new scout coming in and Dowling leaving I would assume it’s the latter.

Titles do not necessarily mean much. Dourekas had the title of DoF by us, too. He is most certainly not a DoF in the sense of a decision-maker, though. He will be there on the training centre, day in, day out, and he will take care of everything, from the little things that make people's lives easier, to the important things that ensure the club operates properly. A player needs a dentist? You go to Dourekas. You need to chose a training centre for pre-season training? He'll inspect them all. You need to make sure an agent of a player you want to buy feels good about the club? You go to Dourekas. You need everything tidy in the dressing room? He'll take care of it. He fixes things.

As for the suspicion that he may be the cause of AK's distress, that would be a huge surprise for me. Dourekas hasn't had a bad relationship with a manager or a member of the Board for 25 years. He's a people person, and people invariably have the best memories from him.

Bakery owners of Nottingham beware...

Can he make it so Harry Wilson has an unfortunate trip down the stairs before the derby?

Some pedigree, so assuming he's working to Karankas brief, another experienced head can only provide more attention to detail.

If Karankas happy then so am I.

The funny thing is that you have a Director of Football and a Director of Football Operations (Michael Anagnostou). Like I said, titles don't mean much. Anagnostou seems to operate as something of a foreign ambassador, if I understand correctly; he just arranged for matches of the women's Euro 2021 to be played on the City Ground.

Anyone else slightly wary about this given how shit our last DoF was and how good Karanka seems at picking a player?

He did. Much to the displeasure of the sadpies.

Let me repeat once again that Dourekas has never had any role whatsoever in the selection of players.

They also bid to be a venue for the euros, and Derby (or was it Leicester?) as well, but we ended up winning it in our area.

Notts put a lot of emphasis into women’s football over the years and even had an international game at Murder Lane not long ago.

Maybe the FA - who I presume selected the host stadiums - didn't overlook Hardy's decision to arbitrarily disband the Sadpies women's side on the eve of a new season, leaving most of the players in limbo.

He claimed he didn't have the money to keep them going as well as the mens team. He then went and bought Ilkeston Town to compound the ill feeling in the Womens game. So he played a blinder on that one.
