Derby gave him 5x the wages he was offered here. Easy to sit back and call him a mercenary but that secured him and his family's future.

Never claimed it didn't.

But as proven when he left Stoke to join us, then us to join Derby then getting his move to Celtic. Each time putting the club he in a powerless position to stop him leaving or get any real cash for him.

Sounds like the definition of a Mercenary in football to me.

f**ked Stoke over, f**ked Forest over, f**ked Derby over. The man is a mercenary and I don't care how good he is - he is not welcome back.

5x the wages at Derby? Give over.

The rumour is bollocks, but he would do a great job for us short term, playing behind Assombalonga.

Each and every time those clubs could of sold him if they wanted too, but they didn't. How dare he consider himself before football clubs and agents...

Forest offered him 5k a week to sign, derby offered him 25k. Unless his brother was lying to my face then I have no reason not to believe it.

Still think he would help us get promotion. A short term solution maybe but I think he would make the whole team tick. Reid is the other player who could do that but he will not play every game and hasn't found any fitness or form yet.

Not a dig at you, but i've also heard two people say that Commons' brother told them that he wasn't offered one by Forest at all. Evidently he doesn't know a lot about it, or his story keeps changing.

The difference between £5k and £25k is too big too. Managers and CEO's have an idea of how much a player is worth, it won't differ by 500%. I also don't think Derby would have been in a position to offer him £25k when they were in a period of slashing their wage bill.

I suspect people are talking about the overall package. Derby offered him a large signing on fee alongside weekly wage.

Also, at the time they could afford to pay much more than us after a year in the PL. We'd spent 3 years in league one. They had a fair few on high wages at the time.

In Forests case, when he signed his final contract it was for a single season and he said (in the media no less) that he would not consider re-signing unless we got promoted because he wanted to play in the championship ideally with Forest.

Upon getting promoted he lead Calderwood and the club (their words) to believe he was going to sign a new contract. He then signed for Derby, citing feeling let down that Forest did not him a new contract earlier in the season (when he said he would not consider one), and it then emerged that he had actually been talking to Derby and agreed to sign for them before the season ended.

You are viewing it in the complete isolation of Commons wanting more cash and just leaving, whilst ignoring all of the things that were said and done which did not sit well with some of us.

I don't even think he is that good a player. During his spell with us, we got relegated to the 3rd division, and were stuck there for 3 seasons. During his time with Derby they were a shambles that hovered above the relegation zone every season.

That is not his fault, but I wonder if he stood out in poor teams.

In Scotland he has been good, but it is like playing for Chelsea against League Two teams every week, when he is playing for Celtic in the the SPL. So poor is the standard up there.

He is not as good as Andy Ried or Lansbury - I am not even sure he is on a par with Burke or Antonio now either.

Commons himself said it after joining Derby, he then changed his mind to we had offered him a contract but it was too little too late.

Like when he said was a life long Forest fan, during his time here, before going to Derby and saying he was never a Forest fan growing up.

Therein lies the problem. It's a difficult one. I hope someone at the club has more clue than I have.

Was thinking about a creative genius type midfielder the other day and couldn't think of one. Williams who played for Ipswich looks a good prospect. But ultimately there are few that are priced within championship club price range.

There's an undertone here that suggests you wouldn't be that keen on us having him.
