Yes, and for over 100 years the registration of a footballer was retained by the club, even though the contract had expired, until it was challenged by a certain Mr Bosman (have you heard of him?)

It is just that they (UEFA) have not yet challenged the one club who will stand up to them (i.e. a rich one)

With your Malaga example as well they were banned from the champions league for numerous reasons namely not paying wages to players and staff or installments on transfer fees not just for not making enough profit.

But the law of the land changed after the rules had been agreed, namely when we joined the EU and freedom of movement was introduced. The challenge was to have the rules changed to match the NEW LAW

FFP has been introduced after the competition laws, and backed by the EU competitions Commisioner - slightly different.

The EU are also going after Barcelona, and Madrid for their beneficial status as member owned clubs - giving tax breaks to the club - because it us unfair to the rest of Spain.

A good accountant could bury any FFP stuff so deep that it would take the football league a few years to uncover it. It's not as though accounts have two columns, namely money coming in, and money going out. It would then be down to the Football authorities to prove that in a court of law. That's just one club. It is totally unworkable, and that's the whole reason the clubs signed-up for it in the first place, allied with the fact that the football authorities are historically toothless, so why do you think they are suddenly going to become aggressive over FFP?

If thats your only hope that it won't work - man hours needed - I think you need to find some other straws to clutch.

Where's the court of law come into it? Football league say you've broke out rules - there is no law to go to court about. Maybe the court of arbitration for sport but not a court if law.

It would also fall to to the club to prove they didn't break the rules when they appeal against the leagues decision - not the other way round.

Celtic were shocking. I'd expect them to rest their entire first team on Sat as going out of the Champs league next Wednesday would lose them about £50 Mil.
