I don't think people wish ill on the lad. People just don't think he's a particularly good keeper. It's nothing personal.
He did well for us and was unlucky to lose his spot to the absolute giant that was scared to come for crosses Pantillimon.

He's done a fine job at NFFC. His save Vs Ipswich kept us in the league, he didn't throw his toys out when he lost his spot the year after and still as 3rd choice he comes to training with a smile on his face and gets right behind the boys on matchday.

Fine servant to NFFC. Not everyone can be Morgan Gibbs White.

Hard disagree there. We usually used to leak goals like a sieve when he was playing, and he didn't set the world alight at Mansfield Town either. Pantillimon wasn't great, but I thought he was considerably better than Smith.

Again, nothing against the lad, but he isn't very good and personally I think trying to argue otherwise is looking at him through academy-tinted specs. I'd love him to prove me wrong and smash it at Huddersfield as he seems a nice lad, but realistically his future when he leaves here is most likely going to be in League Two or the National League.

If he goes, I wish him success.
And if he goes, and if we can't buy/borrow a keeper who can oust Hennessey, we are going to face the prospect of havin Wayne in goal and a member of the U21 squad on the bench.
I watched the Luton game at the weekend, and Horvath may be enjoying some success there, but he still showed the weaknesses that propmted Forest to bring in Hendo and Hennessey, and lend Horvath out.
So, Worrall gets the green jumper, making way for Felipe.

Fans get delusions when they see the likes of Hendo between the sticks.

Best not to forget where we came from, which could have been worse had it not been for Smith under Warburton.

Nowhere near as bad a keeper as he's made out to be.

Adnan Kanurić is available too.

Will always have a lot of time for smudge, has been a great servant to the club even if we look beyond him saving us from relegation. Great attitude, no toys out of the pram business just a hard working honest professional

Given his lack of involvement in friendlies etc (other than sitting on the bench), my feeling is that he was signed primarily to have someone to shoot at (past) in training.

I reckon that Hogarth is "next man up", given that he's managed to get half a seasons experience of senior football recently, albeit at a very poor level.

He played in an ultra-attacking side that conceded many chances against given next to no defensive rigidity due to prioritising attacking overloads. The defence in front of him was Darikwa-Mancienne-Mills-Traore - none of whom had any defensive recovery strengths.

Oblak would have leaked goals in that scenario.

Edit: Pantillimon was utterly wank. Couldn't save shots almost right at him because he's so big but you'd hope he'd be an aerial presence... nope. It's no surprise the only club that even considered taking him off our hands was from that footballing hotbed of Cyprus.

He wasn't particularly good after Warburton either, to be fair. Warburton tried to replace him in his first window, and Karanka then did just that.

Pretty much every Forest manager afterwards didn't trust him to be second choice either (even when the 'utterly wank' Pantillimon was first choice, Smith usually didn't even make the bench either as even Steele and Kapino were deemed better).

He's not the worst keeper to have played for Forest by any means, but he is nowhere near Championship standard either.

Hard to judge his actual standard given he only played half a season at Championship level, but I don't think he looked out of place. Take your point that multiple keepers ended up in front of him in the pecking order chosen by multiple different managers so yes it does sort of surprise me he might end up playing Championship level, especially after the not-so-successful Mansfield loan.

He's actually made 52 appearances for us, mostly in the Championship (46). He's no Roche, Muric, Pedersen, Stephen Henderson, etc, but he wasn't particularly great either.

Good servant to the club and a good pro no doubt, but he has done very well to last as long as he has here IMO.

Christ, I remember Rune Pedersen. He was in goal for the legendary 2-0 away defeat to Barnsley in League One - where Gino Padula mistimed a tackle so badly he ended up taking out Gary Megson.

Eugene Dadi also played that game I seem to recall.

Any struggles we may have in the top flight gain a new perspective when I remember standing in the rain at Oakwell watching that unfathomable shit.

Ah. Costel Pantilimon. The 6'7" goalkeeper who jumped 3'2".

Came into a side that went from wide open at the back to one that shit themselves every time they went over the halfway line and was hailed a saviour because we stopped leaking goals, which may have been more down to having 4 defenders and 4 defensive midfielders in front of him in a defensive minded set up that yielded Forest's longest ever goalless drought, even worse than the one under Cotternil (let that sink in), but at least we weren't conceding any more....

I never understood why he was given a new contract in the summer apart from using him as a training partner!🤷‍♀️

He played more than half a season really. Warburton was here for almost a year and he played pretty much all of that time from when Henderson got injured. Thing is Stojkovic and Henderson were terrible keepers and always prone to a howler and whilst Smith still let in plenty of goals he didn't look like an obvious liability so looked better compared to those (who probably without the errors were better keepers - especially VS who was a full international for a long time). Though neither Montanier nor Warburton seemed to care about defence so it's difficult to say if a keeper with a better record would have done better there however when he's played since (e.g. to the end of the Lamouchi season) he's always looked like conceding a fair few.

It didn't seem coincidence that Karanka came in and immediately replaced him (albeit with someone not much better) and that MW had tried to do the same pre-season with Adam Federici who got injured before playing for us.

I don't dislike Smith, I don't think he's ever been a bad influence or a bad pro, and has always done his best for us, just that he isn't a very good keeper.

He was given a new contract well before the summer, long before promotion was assured. Planning for the Premier League wouldn't have been a huge factor.

As a 3rd choice, low maintenance, Championship keeper that makes sense - it's just now we need better.

Wish him well if he gets the loan to Huddersfield and always thankful for the Ipswich save. Don't see the point in having him here if we're going to sign a new goalie every time one gets injured for a bit and there's a slight chance he could end up playing. If we've got any young goalies with a bit of potential surely it would be better for them to train with the first team to get experience, or am i missing something.
Not that it matters too much as i doubt he earns a lot.

Huddersfield have signed Tomas Vaclik so that'll be Smith not going there.
