His name sounds like an NBA player and he looks like one too.

Would be a major risk to sign a player who, whenever he's taken a step up from non league, has flopped.

He's probably the kind of bargain-basement signing we will be making to bolster the squad without falling foul of the FFP embargo.

Ah, I miss the days we were linked with Darren Pratley (and his dog), Peter Whittingham and Roberto Baggio.

Often promised, but not managed to deliver.

Be interesting, sometimes these kind of players just click. Or he could be a cheap flop.

In all seriousness, if this rumour has truth in it, it's good to hear we're looking in the right places.

Some players just don't click early on in their careers, and then suddenly remember where the back of the net is.

It's this kind of risk we better become accustomed to. Better risks than throwing £30k each on Djebbour and Abdoun and hoping they stick isn't it?

I saw him score two against Welling at the Hive three weeks ago. I doubt it would be a good move from him.

Signing a squad full of wank isn't the best route to financial success either

We'll see how he does like and the situation we're in it's understandable. It's just that situation was entirely avoidable if we'd not sacked several managers over several seasons like some of us kept saying.

All we've done is sign a squad full of wank for the last 10 years.

I would much rather see a John Akinde at my club than a Chuba Akpom, call me mad if you want.

We need players grateful to be at Forest. Wanting to prove a point. Akinde could be our Rickie Lambert for all we know, yet there'll be people reading this thread laughing at the rumour.

If we'd signed more lower league players over the past few years we'd be better off financially, and probably league table wise too.

Give over, we've signed some good players over the years. Folk just can't get their head round the fact that they don't give a f*** after 3 seasons of constant chop-change, and watching all their hard work flushed away.

A good chunk of this squad would piss top 6 (as they were doing last season) if the club cultivated them right.

I agree about Akpom, I see the sense in Akinde, but players like Chambers, Lansbury, Lascelles etc. just need the right setup and right manager.

And you were the one saying these players were "top 2" material even with injuries last year!

Definitely, but I think part of that is getting a balanced squad of youngsters, lower league players and experienced Championship lads.

We've barely had that, the closest we came was with SOD, who got in the likes of Collins, Halford and then Gillett and sprung a surprise with McLaughlin (who I think came in under McLeish, although SOD would've done it after months of scouting).

Freedman made the step up from Barnet himself.

Gary Bull did not.

We can't sign him even if we wanted to, he still has a year left on his contract at Barnet which would mean a transfer fee which we are not allowed under FFP to do

I think he scored a Premier League winner against Crystal Palace. Or maybe it was an FA Cup game.

Nathan Arnold score a couple of blinding volleys for Grimsby in the play offs last night. I watched him score a belting mazy dribble sort of goal for Cambridge last year. He should be putting his youtube compilation video together this morning. Million pound contracts have been earned with less.

John Akinde is a much better "team player" than McLeod ever was & works much harder.I would always prefer him in my team although I guess that McLeod has more quality.

Akinde gives everything. He might not have quite the same finesse as McLeod, but I would have him any day over Izale.

He scored three league goals in 72 games before he went to alfreton and after he left wycombe. Three!

Some would say he's found his level , take away the 11 penaltys he's scored and his tally looks less impressive . He won't find as many poor defences in league two as he's found in the conference . He didn't fit in well at the club before and I don't think he would in the future.

No way he is not league standard.

He looked terrible when he played for us and I have not seen anything that would change my view of him. I agree that he will struggle in The Football League, and if I am wrong then good for him ?
I do wonder whether he would have "won" quite so many penalties if he were playing in the higher divisions, but this is purely speculation.
I would also point out that I do not condone any "abuse" directed at any footballer. However, I cant recall any at the time.

Sounds like a grafter not a scorer. Can see the logic behind it. May be a decent Dex understudy. We're defo going 1 up front all season.
