Hmmmm seems to be quite excited about it huh 👀
Looks like Ryan 'The Schlong' Yates has a challenger
He's about a foot shorter than yatesy though, all to do with proportions

Glad we're at least trying. Just offer some money to buy him.

Palace would be well advised not to put all their eggs in Henderson's basket though, as this time last year can attest!
I’m unsure what Palace are doing with both Henderson and Johnstone really. Surely the plan was to buy Henderson then sell Johnstone at some point? Otherwise they have too much value wrapped up there. Probably either hoping for more than we’re offering or don’t want to sell to a rival.

Absolutely. I bet their fans are asking why they didn't spend that £20m ish on a striker instead last summer.

I hope this is true. He’s always looked good when I’ve seen him.
Agreed, Davis has been a beast in the Champ this year. 10 assists from fullback so far, second highest in the champ.

Obviously it's a big step up to the Prem, but at 24 he's still got some growing in him and if both Nuno and Moyes rate him then you've got to be confident he can make that step.

And if we go back down then we've someone who doesn't have to bed into the division either, like a lot of overseas signings would.

Also...He knows how to take a corner!! 😁

Funnily enough when I saw links to 'keepers the other day I was surprised we hadn't asked about Johnstone. Solid 'keeper who has always done a good job. I thought he was out with quite a bad injury though, similar to Henderson last season.

Happy to see links to the likes of Davis, I think the Championship is an underrated market. Palace have absolutely feasted on talent from that level over the past few years. Bournemouth are now doing similar, for people turning their noses up at £25m for Alex Scott when we were linked, I bet he goes for double that in the next year or two. I wasn't keen on Gyökeres but he has proved me wrong and if you want him, Sporting want someone to match the 100m Euro release clause. Wharton at Blackburn looks like he could be the next one to make the step up.

It's a fine balance for sure, but even when we land quality from abroad there's always that extra factor that they have to settle and get used to both the culture and leagues here. So, even though we certainly shouldn't ignore overseas markets, I'm more than happy for us to pick the best the Champ has to offer. And Davis fits that bill this season for sure.

I think we can do better than Johnstone - the fact he is considered Henderson's backup shows what Hodgson thinks.

But I do think he is an improvement on both Turner and Vlachodimos,

The problem we have is that we have 5 keepers none of whom are PL standard. But it's also going to be difficult to shift any of them off the books.

I guess it's possible a CH or L1 club might look at Shelvey, realistically that's probably about his level, and there may be MLS interest in Horvath or maybe Turner. Someone might be tempted by Vlachodimos as he's an international keeper but if they watch him play for us they might change their mind there.

Hennessey is clearly likely to retire in the next year or two anyway so we'd just presumably let him go.

If we signed Johnstone (or even Schmeichel with the age issue) we'd still be looking. At least Navas on loan again would be a safe option which we know for the short term but still kicks the can down the line and is presumably going to be costly again.

ideal solution would have been signing someone like Livakovic in the summer, but he's now gone elsewhere.

I can't believe it is January 72nd and we still haven't done any business yet. Is that just the state of the market at the moment?

Once we get a few back from AFCON then our squad should be largely fine, but another attacking midfielder and a goalkeeper would have been my priorities from day one with the idea of them playing against Brentford and involved in the FA Cup.

I'm staggered that Origi and Tavares are both still here. I would have cancellled their loans as soon as the window opened.

I can see why we kept Tavares as we are short on numbers. But isn’t origi injured anyway?

And their lawyers would most likely have been in touch for breach of contract. Many of these loan agreements have no break clause half way through.
