January 2024 Transfer Window

I can't imagine we actually have much of a budget for January if I'm honest.
All the loan players should and likely will go back, I can't see us taking an option to buy any of them or to keep paying for them.
But, I'm also struggling to understand why we've spent £11m on Omobamidele when he's not even been on the bench.

We desperately need a good striker but do we have the budget for a Taiwo level striker?
We'll need a full back because we'll lose Tavares and Montiel.
I'd maybe say a winger and maybe a central attacking midfield.

There was quite a detailed article after the window,

In short, I believe we have 50mish until we breach FFP.. obviously we wouldn't want to spend this as we wouldn't want to go too close but I can imagine up to 30m being available in Jan

Some players may be sold too, Worrall and McKenna spring to mind.

In Worrall's case particularly it would be good for the FFP books as he would go down as pure profit being an academy player.

I don't think there is a way telling how much we can spend, and if there was the club wouldn't want it out there anyway.

You could have £0 to spend & still find a way to spend a fortune by structuring deals differently.

At the end of the day the likelihood is we will spend all that the big man allows which is normally as much as we are allowed in the rules.

Apparently on 100k a week so that's unlikely I would have thought for a player who has yet to really hit the heights, though clearly with bags of ability - though does he know steve from his England days and maybe the likes of CHO and MGW?
£100k is the going rate for a good Premier League player nowadays

I would snatch your hand of for Nketiah but seems like a longshot even if we can make it work financially.

Depends on the managerial situation too. If it's a new one they might only come here if promises about spending are made and I wouldn't imagine it would take long for them to suss out the Williams' and Kouyates etc of this world and try and offload.

Better off waiting until summer as I think the current 3 year period covers this season which we're already safe from due to the sale of Johnson.

Wonder how much we'd have to throw at Luton for Adebayo.
Can’t see them selling him to anyone, in particular us in January. Should they go down however, and us stay up, I think he’d be a decent attainable option as back up to Taiwo. Like Taiwo when he first came to us, he looks ungainly but he’s definitely a handful. Doubt our owners would consider him high profile enough though.

I’m not sure it needs to be that busy.
a non African striker that has all muscles connected to the right places and offload all the loans back to whence they came and a few of the none participants of the squad.
the midfield will get there, just a minor blip in form.

if we are raiding brazil for another Murillo then that’d be lovely.. but I won’t lose sleep if we dont!

It'll be the busiest window since Jimmy Stewart spotted Raymond Burr committing murder most foul from the back of his apartment

This is how I see the Transfers this window:

Offload:
  • Horvath - 0.25 // 0.25
  • McKenna - 1 // 0.75
  • Worrall - 6.25 // 1 (possibly loan)
  • Montiel - 0 // 1
  • Tavares - 0 // 0.5
  • Santos - 0 // 0.5
  • Origi - 0 // 2
= 7.5m amortised fees // 6m wages

That creates a fair few gaps, but none that hugely impact the current playing squad. My signings suggestions then are based on Cooper integrating the players SLOWLY. Plus, any change to expansive football coming just as slowly.

Most players want to play (obviously), and the opportunities that would immediately be open are:
  • CB - Nino (McKenna / Worrall?) - 6m = 1.5/2 - 12/24
  • LWB - Jakobs (Tavares) - 15m = 3/2 - 6/26
  • FWD - Wind (Origi) - 20m = 5/3 - 6/26
= 9.5m amortised fees // 7m wages

This is a further 6m loss added to this years FFP.

However, according to this article:

…we have a fair amount left in the kitty. £40m or so.

We could therefore sign these players:
  • CM - Hackney - 10 = 2.5/2 - 6/27
  • DM - Rodriguez - 12 = 3/2.5 - 6/24
  • WGR - Nascimento - 10 = 2/1.5 - 12/25
  • FWD - Leonardo - 25 = 5/3 - 12/26
= 12.5m amortised fees // 9m wages

This is a total £27.5m loss added to this years FFP. This seems expensive, but not if you read the Random Pundit article.

Loaning back Hackney and giving Boro the currently injured O’Brien (and possibly Worrall) ensures minimal squad impact.

Rodriguez could come in fairly quickly. As he’s a big 185cm DM and is the long-term successor to Kouyate. Plus, one of Kouyate or Sangare is bound to get injured in Africa. He’s only got six months left on his contract, we’ve held former interest and we’d be mental to not get him at that price.

Nascimento is one for the future, and as we’re likely to stick to three at the back, another that can be introduced off the bench, later in the season.

Leonardo is highly unlikely, as is Guirassy. But if he somehow fancies it, then it’s a no brainer. He would expect to play.

With Wind the long term successor to Wood (in life also), then do we sell Wood in this scenario? It creates an element of risk, but he’s hardly prolific. We could also retain him to the summer, but then lose out on a fee.

This leaves the 23/24 squad as:

Turner
Vlachodimos❌
Hennessy❌

***JAKOBS***
Toffolo

***NINO***
Omobamidele⭐

Niakhate
Felipe❌

Murillo⭐
Boly

Williams
Aina
Aurier❌

Mangala
***RODRIGUEZ***
Kouyate❌

Yates
Sangare

Danilo
Dominguez

MGW
CHO
Elanga⭐
***N.MENTO***⭐

🤕Awoniyi🤕
***LEONARDO***⭐
***WIND***
Wood❌

Aguilera⭐️ (Loan)
***HACKNEY***⭐️ loan back to Boro

The players with an ❌ those who will leave at the end of 23/24.

For 24/25 we’d only be looking at a Goalie and a CB. Possibly a RB (with Aina as cover for both wings) and another CB if Boly also leaves.

This would all be within FFP.
