James Perch

Today Perch started and played 90 minutes for a club that are 5th in the Premier League, we are odds-on favourites to get relegated to the 3rd Division. FFS.

And as noted in another thread, a product of the Academy that was so dear to our former Chairman's heart.

Somewhere, I think, Nigel will have watched that game and had a quiet smile to himself.

Didnt really notice him in the first half, was just hovering in front of the back 4, second half the bits I saw he was quality!

Well played Perchy!

He has been immense so far for Newcastle today.

Cleverly done. Maybe not a full on butt although Reina went in to Perch believing he'd been fouled.

Embarassing dive, but we all know you can't raise your hands/head. He barely touched Reina, but Reina stuck the nut on him and deserved to go. The fact Perch did 3 pirouettes is irrelevant really, why should he stay on his feet and do Reina a favour?

I live with a newcastle fan, he's quickly becoming a fan favourite. He's even got his own chant. "Who needs mourinho, we've got perchinio"

I was one of the daft ones who thought he was a weak link when here

He got a rough ride from a section of the supporters when he was here, mostly on account of the Yeovil playoff debacle.

I always saw an enthusiastic young player who tried hard.

We should however be happy that we have an NFFC Academy product playing at the top level.

I seem to remember someone saying how Paul Hart was one who consistently argued that Perch was Premiership quality.

Paul Hart, it seems, was correct!

Being put at left back didn't help him

I think he's played well there for Newcastle recently. Overlaps n all, had a shot from a run last week.

It takes a lot to change our minds when we've appointed someone scapegoat.

In fairness, prior to the last two or three games he was getting nothing but abuse from the geordies (at least from what I read on their boards), he hadn't got a look in following a terrible few games early in the season. It hurts a bit to see him doing well elsewhere, but good luck to him, hope he can keep it up.

Blackpool. To be fair, he had a shocker in those two games.

He'd have been alright had he been able to get a run of games in defence. He used to annoy me when he played midfield, though.

Perchy is like Grant Holt. Didn't set the world alight for us, although some would argue they were played out of position. Both surprisingly end up in the prem and start playing inexplicably well.

That's not to say the critique of them in Forest shirts is incorrect.

There was a game were he played CB and it was a disaster. I think being the utility man doesn't help players.
