„AND....CHELTENHAM HAVE SCORED!!!“

I‘m going to watch that DVD again today, I think.

I remember dancing on the pitch with Lewis McGugan after everyone had poured on to it after the whistle, and after the match, I headed into West Bridgford, started at the Oriental Pearl, and then just followed the road. It all got a bit blurry afterwards.

It was way into the next day when I eventually got home, suffice to say, I was in the doghouse for a bit.

Oh, and of course:

„It is all over at the City Ground and those scenes tell you everything, Nottingham Forest have come with a great late run, they have won 6 of the last 7 games, they have lost 1 of the last 13 games They are promoted, fantastic for those long Suffering Forest Fans"

I actually bumped into Julian back end of last year in the sweetshop in Ruddington, he was his usual charming self and made a big fuss of my daughter too. Top bloke.

I was down in Exeter in my first year at uni and was unable to come.up for it due to an exam taking place the next day (a Sunday!).

I just remember screaming my halls of residence down and bumping into a fellow Red in the dinner hall that night. Nobody around us have a toss but I think that was the happiest I've ever been. Leicester going down the next day made it pretty special too.

It was a good night, but mostly remember just thinking 'thank god for that'.

Hard to watch it back with too much fondness because it's Forest getting promoted from division three.

I remember both delight and relief at this game. I didn't quite buy into the running onto the pitch though. Felt like it was a dog fight in that league, and although promotion was amazing, it was something to be expected almost at some point.

Promotion from this league, when it happens, will definitely give me a lump in my throat though.

Watched the season review on the 97/98 season earlier on Forest YT. Once again, as has been the case over years, being on the verge of being a good side, only to blow it before we give it a chance by selling Kevin Campbell, resulting in PVH (understandably) kicking off. Colin Cooper, leading to Stone and Gemmill leaving too.

Tragic.

Very depressing, because that forward partnership of Campbell and PVH was the major reason we got promoted that year. They were absolutely deadly, great to watch and had a beautiful understanding.

In some ways, I understood why PVH went on strike but I was still annoyed with him because I knew he could have made a big difference on his own. The whole team morale was affected and we never quite recovered.

Always felt sorry for Harry Bassett mostly in all of it, because that Premier League season was not one where he could be judged fairly. I wish we'd have been able to see how he'd have got on with the promoted squad as he was a very good manager.

Harry was on holiday when we sold Campbell as I remember, didn't even know about it until he was back.

There was a very good night out featuring several members of the forum, past and present. We drank Amici dry before moving on. Ended up splitting into 2 groups and trying to behave ourselves in the queue for the Cookie Club, I looked round and the second group had nicked a load of hats from a hen party and were bouncing around singing 'We all hate Leeds'. Once inside we then got told off for dancing in a doorway to Chelsea Dagger.

I had gone out for a bike ride because I didn't want to listen to us f*** it up again. Came in for Jeff stelling to say those immortal words.

I can’t remember much past a certain point. I remember dancing to Waterfall in the Cookie Club but not much else apart from calling in Dadford and Mumford’s hotel on the way home and asking the receptionist to ring their room
It was the wrong hotel.

I have no memories of that game or any other from our sorry time in L1 to be fair.

Then again, I hardly have any good memories from the past 20 years, just a feeling of constant struggle and mediocrity. It'd be nice to see a bit of swagger and flair again at the CG as for me that's the memorable stuff. Unfortunately there's not been very much of that on show since 1998.
