That's quite frankly brilliant.

Lee Dixon's own goal was mere run of the mill own goalness when compared to the one Trent McLenehen scored for us when we played Wimbledon at the City Ground. Alas I can't find a video of it :weep:

The best own goal ever to me is still that one where the guy kicks it into his own face

I was going to bring that one up provided I'm thinking of the same one. Acres of space, tame cross, no pressure, free header, buried like a natural goalscorer. Also, who was the chap who volleyed a clearance into his own nose? Playing for Coventry I think, makes me wince and laugh at the same time watching that one.

Edit: already realised I'm wrong, one I'm thinking of was in our favour. They might have even been MK Dons by then.

Double edit: now just seen the previous post. Time for a 5 minute sit down before trying again.

You're thinking of the right one, I'm sure they were still Wimbledon but might be wrong :)

The end of matches was always a bore fest, 3 or 4 time a goalie would roll out to a defender, who would pass it back, then the goalie would pick it up again

Was there a law at the time to stop this? I cant see how any matches would have gone further than 1-0 otherwise.

The McMahon one is ace, not least because it reminds me of what happened in the next minute. Oh how I celebrated that night.

Fantastic article. Liverpool were notoriously bad at exploiting this. Introducing the back pass rule was about the last decent thing FIFA did.

I know which one you mean. 3-0 win over MK, 2005-06 under Barlowinho?

Tried looking for it on YouTube, and I'm certain I've watched the highlights at one point, but alas I can't find it. I do remember every time the CB got anywhere the ball the Trent End got up and started jeering him like hell, and Breckin powered in a bullet of a header late on.

I really wanna, watch pat bonners 8 minutes of possession against Egypt but can't find it. Surely it couldn't have been that bad?

Oh it was Terry it was.

I am an Ireland fan, and Packie Bonner was an absolute master of time wasting and pudding about.

It was a major part of the "Jack Charlton" way of playing, pressing, possession of the ball, and slowing the game down.

Effective, but not pretty.

So was it pass to defender then pass it back and pick it up ie the Liverpool way? Or he just kept it?

I could never understand why jack played that way as you had quality "footballers" in the ranks

They just kept it.

I remember when the law came in and Brian Laws got down on his knees to head it back to the keeper in pre season (against Sampdoria probably). He only did it once though (not back to keeper, back on knees, keeper, knees repeated lol) - not that Forest did much passing back and forth between keeper and defender from what I remember, although Steve Sutton did give it short on occasions if he didn't fancy the half volley to the centre circle.

I remember a Laws interview someone posted on here a while ago, and he seemed to be partly blaming the backpass rule coming in for Forest getting relegated I think - because the players got tired without being able to knock it back for a breather and Clough only brought in a fitness trainer midway through the season. I'm not sure there was much in that though personally.
