He has a clear presence and spots danger very quickly, a couple of times he came from nowhere and just nabbed it.

But he looked like a player that met his manager & team mates on Friday. I was suprised he was thrown right in.
Very unlike Cooper to do it, but think he perhaps succumbed to the pressure to play a ‘star’ player.

I think it would have helped a lot if he was at the base of a midfield 3

I'm not convinced were going to see Sangare as a holding midfielder.

Like Yates isn't, like Kouyate isn't when he plays. Cooper seems to like his physical players to exert a presence all over the pitch whereas the holding player tends to be the ball player.

If we played Sangare, Mangala and Yates tonight I reckon Mangala would have ended up being the deepest of the three.

Whenever he has done it at this level, they have always looked the odd one out.

I suppose the argument he would make is it’ll get them up to speed quicker.

The intensity and high-tempo would have been an eye-opener too in comparison with what he's used to. Once he's up to speed there's no doubt we'll see his value.

I think expectations were way too high tonight.
What is his English like?
and he has only just returned from international duty, so probably doesn't know his team-mates names yet.
I think it was important to get his debut under his belt at the WFCG.
Imagine making your debut at Man city?

To be completely honest, he played like what he is, a clearly talented player playing in a brand new team for the first time.
I didn't see the big deal when we were after him in the summer, I wasn't as euphoric as some, when we signed him.

But that said, there were moments in there where I thought he's going to be really good for this team. He just needs to settle in, learn how the players around him play. When you bare in mind that even Elanga is basically on his sixth game for the squad, we've got half that team there fresh and they're playing a different system.

Come November, I think we will all see the hype, for sure.

He will be fine - you could see it in there - but goodness me talk about getting thrown in the deep end. He will be fine.

Has gone from Dutch league, to an international match, to moving to a new country, to meeting a new manager, to probably one training session, to starting in a midfield 2 in the EPL in a side that is also playing a new formation with other players also playing their first game for the club. All in the space of about 2 weeks. And all on limited English.

What did we expect ?! 🤔😂

Yeah I was thinking this. These guys are humans, not machines - he must be exhausted, physically and mentally.

I think he should play the full 90 at the Etihad though (and I'm sure he will) - if nothing else, everything after that in the Premier League will seem easier.

What happened to playing your best XI regardless?

Last night was a perfect example as to why you don't just chuck someone in. Sangare played like someone who's only just met his team-mates.

There were good bits and bad bits. Some really good steals with a well timed toe. Sometimes looked a bit sluggish, and I really thought we were going to concede when he mucked about with the ball in our box second half.

Sangaré would be in the "best XI regardless" which is why he was so expensive. Steve Cooper knows what he's doing. A new player can only get up-to-speed and settle into a team by playing games.

The mistake wasn’t playing Sangare, it was not playing Yates
I agree that we missed Yates 100%, but I can totally see why Coops is looking for a way for us to be near our best without him too, especially after we were without him for so long last season.

And to me, now's the time to try those other options out, whilst we're sat nicely in the table with the pressure off slightly and Coops is in credit.

I think we'll get towards the latter season with an awesome formula and two great midfielders who aren't burned out either.

I can feel the undertow of evolution taking place here, and I think it's a big one. Yates will undoubtable be a key figure in that.
