Mangala looks to be warming to the task we all know what Yates brings, assuming he's shaken off what troubled him last season. They've both proven to be fragile.

Nothing concrete enough to suggest we're sorted though, we need another, preferably better than the aforementioned.

That, a keeper & another striker is a must, aswell as keeping hold of Johnson.

Expectations have receded I guess.

Few weeks ago I thought we'd be having a window in which Sangare was one of two or three big spends with another 3 or 4 "smaller" spends - total window outlay of like £80m or so.

Looks like we'll end up spending £30m. £15m on Elanga and £15m on Hendo and done.

Given we haven't pushed the boat out in other areas almost seems a bit pointless to drop £32m on a CM area where we have decent options. What's it gonna do, turn us from a 16th placed team to a 15th placed team?
Money well spent if it stop us being an 18th placed team.

Not sure you can shake off a shoulder?

I don't think it is.

They're clearly different players but both bring an awful lot to the table. I wouldn't want to sell Awoniyi for less than £50m either.
Well using your logic of saying Johnson had a bad month or so, it can clearly be said also about Awonyi too. I think he probably will but I dont think he has proven himself just yet, and to be spoken about as better than Johnson is crazy to me, but I suspect you are just being contrary.

You can go through the Awoniyi thread and find my posts stating how crucial he is to our run in, and then me claiming he was worth £50m or so in April time.

He's every bit as good as Johnson. For Johnson's pace and finishing, Awoniyi's got that raw power and knack of finding space in the six yard box.

Ideally both are Forest players for a long time to come still.

Not sure I follow that logic, we either need strengthening or we don't, and if not with 2-3 bigger spends then better 1 than none surely. Though I'd want a GK and a forward before a midfielder, it's true.

Logic:

Drop another £80m+ to strengthen in key areas with real quality additions, and maybe we can push towards top half.

Replace like-for-like in most cases, with £15m spent on a backup already, then adding another £30m on one player into the mixer isn't likely to change our fortunes much. We'll still be somewhere between 13th and 19th.

I dunno, you get used to Forest's attrition rate of 30 odd players every window. The quietness of this one has just tempered by ambitions for the season a bit and I don't think we need Sangare to battle to safety given we've already done just that once already.

I'm not as bothered about missing out on Sangare as I would have been a few weeks ago. I think we can make it work with a midfield core of Yates, Mangala, Kouyate, Danillo as the main options, with Freuler as a backup.

We desperately need to improve the transition from front to back, Danillo shouldnt be anywhere near the base, so your left with Yates, magala, Kouyate & Freuler. None of whom can genuinely see a forward pass without taking 2/3 touches.

I think the backs to the wall performances back end of last season has bred some complacency. We were poor in key areas for the large part.

last I heard from the manager we need to strengthen in a few areas, I agree with him, Id be starting at the base of midfield.

Tails just tweeted that Sangare is still our top target, but there's heavy competition for him.

He then deleted it straight away. There was a few other tidbits in the tweet, so remains to be seen what he's correcting.

Can't understand the logic in the article there will be a bidding war for Sagnare, unless they mean in terms of wages? Anyhow, apparently we've had further talks and are willing to meet the release but there's lots of interest and we fear being priced out (by said bidding war).

Can't see it... Never could tbh.

Agreed, once any club matches the clause then they bypass the negotiating stage. No one will pay more than that.

Quite a 'nothing' article with not a lot new to report other than PSG being after Sangare and us being priced out of Jakobs.

Two contradictory statements.
If the release clause is something we're willing to pay, then we don't need to negotiate with PSV.

You can't be priced out with a release clause. It's like going into Tesco and buying a tin of baked beans. You pay the money, you get the beans.
It's Sangare that'll take convincing.

If everyone is below the release clause then that doesn't apply and it's still a bidding war.

Yeah, like the folk who pick up the can of Heinz and try to convince the can to get in their basket not someone elses.

You can't expect a football journalist to know about stuff like that though can you mate

I wonder if it’s time for an Alternatives to Sangaré thread yet?

Was just reading an article about Liverpool’s interest in Fluminense’s André and apparently we were in for him last January but he turned us down as his wife was about to give birth.

Brazilian window closes today so apparently he won’t be sold until January (end of Brazilian season) but fee being touted is 25m quid.

His stats in the Brazilian league are better than Danilo and he’s the same age. Having seen Danilo’s impact here, I’d take that for 25m all day long.

I’ll go back to what I’ve said before. Offer him another 15/20k per week or whatever. That’s the only way to convince him. Or just move on.

Agree with the last part naturally but Taiwo is a way off for me, not least until he can prove his fitness.

The whole spine of our team is weak going into on this season

Henderson - great, but too injured to sign and won’t be available to play for weeks
Felipe - injured
DCM - need to buy one
Taiwo - injured again

Yes a lot of the form from the last 8/9 games was due to Taiwo having a purple patch. Take him out due to injury (again) and its considerably weaker. And the other positions as you rightly say.

Need a top keeper and another quality CB signed first to make spending over 30mil on Sangare worthwhile. If we don’t it’ll be a waste of money.

I think Sangare will go to PSG and then get loaned to us until January at least.

Just a hunch (& they’re normally wrong)
