What a great piece that is.

I always liked Ian Woan, a cracking player, intelligent and a real attacking threat.

I agree-we seemed to have a knack in those days of producing silky mercurial footballers like Ian. Woan was just class and showed what you can do when you concentrate on a players abilities rather than their deficiencies.

I read many years ago that when Spurs signed Teddy Sheringham he pleaded with Terry Venables to sign Ian Woan saying he'd got the sweetest left foot in football

Dirk Furtull

John Robertson
One of my favourite all time Forest players. Always seemed a bit unfashionable to like him, I remember him being called a lazy Scouser, neither was true.

“One decent scouser….”

Remember him being in the stands with us for a league cup game once. Top bloke.

He was known as the LSG ( lazy scouse git) for his languid style.

It was a term of affection rather than abuse.

The guy was my hero when I was a nipper, I wanted a left peg like Ian Woan (I'm sure every young Forest fan did) of course I had nothing of the sort :D. Glad he's doing well as a coach.
