Has anyone else wondered......

.....if we'd now be any worse off had the al-Hasawis not come forward when they did, and the Doughty estate was only left with the option of passing the club onto the Pye/Arthur-led consortium that was reportedly waiting in the wings if more wealthy buyers couldn't be found.

I ask, although I was someone who genuinely feared that last resort outcome at the time, greeting the al-Hasawis arrival with a sense of relief. Four years or so later, how wrong could I have been

Would we be worse off, or would such a "conservative" group actually have worked by providing the stability that the club desperately needed, accompanied by perhaps a slightly less expansive set of expectations?

(None of this "third star" nonsense).

Sadly, I suspect we will never know.

In hindsight Chris, I'm minded to think that we may have been ok, especially considering that other Championship clubs at the time have actually prospered despite having similarly-modest backing - Burnley being a club that immediately springs to mind. Cotterill would've doubtlessly been a hindrance to any immediate progress though.

I kind of see it like we've come full circle so it's almost now like the past five years and his investment has been for nothing.

I agree with this. We have gone backwards as a club. I guess that nobody knows what would have happened had he not come in

All of us who welcomed the Al Hasawi takeover were wrong Otis. Hindsight and all that... but clearly we'd have been better off with any owners who were able to fulfil the day to day requirements needed to effectively run a football club.

Full circle, only now I feel we are trapped with an investor that has no money left to invest but doesn't want to sell the club either.

Maybe we're wrong and Fawaz thinks he can get a better deal for everyone concerned?

It's gone way past that though, we are in trouble NOW.
By all accounts the club is running with skeleton staff and there is no money left. The players look disinterested and the manager seems to have run out of ideas.

If we can muddle through this season it will be a huge relief.

As with anything to do with Forest, player, manager, owner you give them the benefit of doubt. The yanks would have been the same.

Surely nobody was daft enough to buy into the 3 star bollocks but equally you do expect a certain level of competence which clearly aint there. Problem and something which has probably worked to his advantage with fazza is he came with no history. The yanks and the greek, a swift google search you can find their worth and what they bring to the table.... with fazza nothing, until its to late.

The fans would never have accepted this either though would they? (In hindsight they might, but not at the time). I suspect the owners would just have been slated for 'lack of ambition' and the unrest would not be to disimilar to what we see now?

We'll never know. One things for sure they wouldn't have had much grace before the knives came out as MArthur was already detested and came across as someone out of his depth.i think we would've sunk pretty quickly under them. Other clubs have overtaken us they wouldn't have prevented that.

Don't know about the past but here's my prediction for what's going to happen next:

1) Fawaz wants out, that I think is clear, I suspect he has been told by his family to recover money from the club, as much as possible. I also suspect the Yanks were trying to reduce the £50 million to more like £20 million.

2) Fawaz will sell EVERYTHING that isn't nailed down to get back as much money as possible - players, youth players - anything and everything. We're going to be completely up shit creek without a boat, never mind any paddles.

3) Forest end up all over the football news worldwide for all of the wrong reasons, Fawaz becomes the most hated man in football.

4) All of this attention ends up putting us in front of other potential buyers and we end up with a crazy Chinese billionaire in charge - or something similar.

5) Merry go round sets off again for another 20 years of bat shit crazy mad shit.

etc repeat again etc.

Nobody else in football cares what happens here. The takeover falling through isn't in any of the headings on the BBC Sport website; there's dozens of stories already taking precedence over it and you have to dig right down into the Championship section to see it, where Leeds winning last night is the main story.

I can't see many billionaires being that interested in failing soon to be League One clubs either. Especially when the negotiations appear as difficult as they are.

I mean once he starts selling all of the players and destroys one of the oldest clubs in English football - that's when the shit will hit the fan.

I know mate, but I very much doubt the wider footballing community will take much notice. I doubt 5% of football fans in this country could name either our manager or our owner.

I bet less than 5% of under 16 year olds could name us as a club.

Young kids outside of Nottingham/derby have no idea who we are. Burnley/Hull are bigger clubs than us now

My nephew emailed me saying the Yanks were looking to deal at £15m. Don't know his source though.

You're probably right, I've supported us for so long I still associate us with the late great BC, but I guess today for most kids if you're not in the Prem you're nothing and we haven't been there for 20 years.

It hadn't totally dawned on me that we're not even remotely famous any more, and clearly we're going nowhere for the forseeable future except maybe down or out of business.

What a sad end to a once great club.
