Yeah, we're good in midfield especially seeing as the possible departure of Kouyate to Saudi didn't happen.

If we've got money to spend in January or next summer I think we should think about a long term, high quality replacement for Awoniyi, as he'll go to one of the top six pretty soon I reckon.

I see the logic in an out and out closer as an option for when we are leading games - I'm still a yes on this.

Agree we'll need an Awoniyi heir - the obvious one will be the VfB battering ram guy - Guirassy is it?

He's 27 though I think, right type of player but it might be good to try to find someone younger.

I am not convinced there ever was an interest, it came out from the Betis side exactly when we were just signing 2 other players for that position

only 2 years older than awoniyi. It will take a utterly ridiculous offer for forest to sell, awoniyi isn't a mercenary and demand to be sold.Forest have no real need to sell.

Right, but in 2 summers' time (when Awoniyi might be ready to move on / we receive an insane bid / whatever) Guirassy will be 29. Instead of him we could sign someone next summer like that Argentinian lad that Spurs nicked off us this summer, give him a year to bed in, then he's ready when Awoniyi leaves. All pure conjecture of course but it's the Brighton model isn't it.

I fear Awoniyi will outgrow us this season, which is why I have no issues going for a 27 year old. Wouldn't be against us bringing a younger model in alongside a more established type though.

I would hope that the club would grow with him, the signs are certainly there that that's the plan. I've got this funny feeling in me bones that in a few seasons we're going to be up there with the big boys. Big M is absolutely not messing about :)

edit - Although I do accept that we may have to sell players to finance these plans if big money offers come in but my point was that I don't think we would sell him because he's outgrown us, if we did it would be to pay for the further evolution of the club.

If Taiwo does what I think he might/hope he will this year he'll be targeted by one of the top six. While it's a lovely thought, I don't think we'll have grown to that level.
