I have answered similar q‘s before in the „European Football“ thread, but for me, one of the better venues to go and watch a Bundesliga game would be 1. FC Köln; tickets are usually available on general sale (have a look here for tickets: https://fc.de/en/fc-tickets/tickets-home/)

You also then have loads to do in Köln itself.

Many of course would like to watch FC Bayern or Borussia Dortmund, but pretty much every game at the Allianz Arena in München or the Westfalenstadion in Dortmund are sold out, and you don‘t want to have to depend on the secondary market, because it is often expensive and open to fraud.

Be very wary about buying tickets on eBay Kleinzangen as that is full of fraudsters - always buy from the clubs directly.

Also, you will often find tickets significantly easier to get for 2. Bundesliga matches; there are some big clubs down there (again) this season, such as Hamburger SV, Fortuna Düsseldorf and 1. FC Nürnberg, all of which you can reasonably get tickets for, just see their official club websites:

Again, it will depend on where you are going and where you are staying.

Getting around between the cities is straight-forward; rail travel via Deutsche Bahn is the way to go, the ICE trains link every major city, and each city, large town, and much of the wider areas are linked with a combination of regional rail, suburban trains, trams and buses.

I have family from Stuttgart so have always considered them my German team even though not many of them are football folk.
We went over for a family get together a few years back and it’s a fantastic City to visit.
I haven’t been to Cologne but by all accounts it too is a stunning City. I have a Forest mate who is well connected and he tells me we have quite a “bond” with FC Koln which I presume harks back to our European days so I presume if you went there wearing a Forest top you might well be well regarded. I’d be interested to know if anyone else knows of this connection.

Only a thought but we might draw a German club in next season’s champions league 🤔

Stuttgart, good choice! 😃

„Stuggi“ might not be the most attractive city in Germany (narrator: it is not) but you can blame the RAF and USAAF for that, because they blew most of it up in WWII, and the city centre and many of the suburbs had to be completely rebuilt mostly in the 50s and 60s, and well, its nice if you like concrete, let us say. But, venture outside the inner city and you will find a vibrant, green and welcoming environment, with loads of parks and open spaces, and unique geography - the city itself rests in a steep valley straddling the river Neckar - means that there are lots of interesting things to see, plenty of great hiking and cycling trails, and other regional peculiarities owing to the consistent good weather, like the impressive collection of local vineyards, producing some really good local wines.

And yes, there is indeed a Freundschaft between Forest and Die Geißböcke, and I have known before of several Forest fans who’ve been to watch Effzeh in the past at the Rhein-Energie Stadion. That has been going for some years, as well.

I often wondered if it had anything to do with Tony Woodcock, a man who is still extremely popular in Köln!

As ever, I would be hoping for an away-tie against crack German outfit, VfB Stuttgart!

When I went up to Frankfurt in preseason, there were some enterprising souls outside the ground selling Frankfurt-Nottingham Half-and-Half scarves.

I did not buy one.

I've recently taken an interest in the rather magnificently named 'FC Kilia Kiel' of the Regionalliga Nord - as my colleague in Kiel was rather enjoying their promotion from the Schleswig-Holstein league last season, because who doesn't like talking about football?
Their first choice Keeper is called Justus Kaack - and I couldn't resist asking if he's Just As Cack as he sounds...

I can sort of understand people buying as a memento if they haven’t got a dog in the fight and they’re just taking in a game, can’t imagine many being bought by Frankfurt or Forest fans on the day.

St Pauli FC, seem very marmite, I like their pirate flag and I read a few positive articles but there’s was also a few pieces I read which I thought something didn’t quire add up.….seems as if they’re more than a football club involved in loads of different sports under St Pauli name.

We had a meal at a restaurant that was located at the top of what I would loosely call a mountain. The view from the plateau at the top was stunning. You could see literally for many miles all around.
Are you familiar Strum?

Frankfurt pretty close to Stuttgart. Is the rivalry intense?
Not really - Frankfurt is around 170km, and they have their own rivals (Kickers Offenbach, from over the other side of the River Main, being the main local one, although they also have rivalries with Darmstadt and Mainz, who are both local to them, and to a lesser extent, 1. FC Kaiserslautern).

Stuttgart‘s rivals are Karlsruher SC (obligatory: f*** KSC!) plus SC Freiburg and the Stuttgarter Kickers, but the Kickers have been marooned in the lower leagues for years so they only really play each other at youth levels recently, although I went to watch the U17 sides play each other last season, and VfB won 12-0…

That could be one of a couple!

Stuttgart is effectively in a very deep valley, surrounded by steep hills on both sides, and there are some spectacular views from the top of those hills, and there are a couple of nice restaurants up there.

There is also the famous Fernsehturm - the Television Tower - which is 217m high, and you can go to the observation deck at the top and see for mlies on a good day (there is a small restaurant with panoramic windows there also, which is quite smart!)

That is from the top of the Fernsehturm, looking north over Stuttgart; The green area is the Waldau („Forest“) and you can see the high hills on either side, and the city itself behind.

Cheers! Nottingham and Karlsruhe celebrate 50 years together

A host of events – including the creation of a celebratory ale – will be launched next week to mark 50 years of friendship with Nottingham’s twin city of Karlsruhe.

The union between the two cities began on 26 July, 1969, and the twinning has led to many joint cultural activities and successful exchanges involving schools, colleges and universities.

A popular Nottingham-Karlsruhe friendship club, involving local people from both cities, has supported much of this work. A staff exchange has involved hundreds of council employees from the two cities staying in each other’s homes.

In 2014 the Karlsruhe Friendship Bridge was opened over Nottingham train station to connect it with the city’s new extended tram lines. Nottingham had previously sought advice from Karlsruhe when the idea of bringing a tram network was first explored close to 20 years ago.

The 50th anniversary of the Anglo-German civic bond is being launched with a special invitation-only event at the Old Cold Store, Castle Rock Brewery, on Monday (29 April). Further events will then include:

Is Carlton/Gedling still in a relationship with Rotenburg an der Fulda?
When I was at CLW Tech Grammar, I was fortunate enough to go on an exchange visit back in 1967.
I spent 2-weeks in Rotenburg, staying with the family of a lad of my age who was at the Albert Schweitzer school.
A month later, Fritz came to stay with my family for 2-weeks.
By and large it was an enjoyable experience (oh, Ilone Traudel... where are you now, meine Liebling!), bu 14-year old english lads and 14-year old German lads were unlikely to really become great friends!
