The main worry is he's not been playing but on the last sample in 2022 you can see the Elanga comparison I mentioned.

Lots of running at players & good defensive numbers.

This looks to me like a classic "he's cheap and has something we need -insane speed-, if he turns out to be a flop send him over to Oly" move.

I think you need better.
Longer term we likely do need better. However short term, we need some options for the second half of the season. Nuno tracked him at Wolves when he ended up going elsewhere for 30m.

On face value it looks like a low cost, high reward move. Or he sucks and we move on with limited damage.

Not played all season? It'll take him weeks to get match fit and by then it will be too late.

So he's fast? Diakhaby was fast, so what.

Not convinced by this one on the face of it unfortunately.

All he's going to do is take up a squad place in a squad the manager already feels is too big.

If we want to improve, and become top 10 then top 6 as the owner wants then we all have to be looking at better than this.

I think the short term vision is the 16 games we will have left after the January window ends. And we likely have starters in CHO and Elanga. But nothing as depth. Will we spend big on an winger ? Either way it’ll be interesting.

This could even be a low cost move to get someone coming out of contract who Monaco are clearly looking to dump. Maybe it’s a punt on someone we think could contribute 24/25 season onwards, but now is the time to get him cheap ? Sign and loan out for 6 months ?

Will wait and see on this one.

As said previously it all completely depends on where we want to put most of our money in January.

I can tell you for certain now is he's better than our current 3rd choice winger... which is nobody.

Not played all season? No from me, surely we've learnt our lesson about filling the squad up with quantity over quality.
Agree, don't want to see us taking punts on players who may or may not be up to the grade. We surely aren't In a position to gamble with our squad size, keep signings to a minimum and ensure they are capable of improving us or at the very least on an upward trajectory with potential.

Used to be a favourite of mine on old FIFA’s due to his speed. No idea what he’s like now but seems like he would suit the same system we used against Newcastle. Just hope he would be more like Elanga than Diakhaby…

Feels like this would be an underwhelming Lica or Diakhaby type of signing.

Also, has anyone read about his disciplinary issues? Can't have players requesting their contracts are cancelled, then going around pushing referees on the pitch, subsequently getting themselves banned from football for 6 months.

Not excited by the prospect of this at all.

Don’t you worry, Bry, Nuno will whip him into shape.

Is the stuff about 6-month ban etc correct, or fake?
If true, we shouldn't be touching him with a barge pole.

Agree with the principal there Bryan, but we know little about this player since his signing for Madrid , so can only go on what facts are available.
Read that the reason he is not playing this season is a major fall out between club & his agent.
On the sending off that led to the ban, it was a nothing challenge to be fair & similar to Boly`s last weekend.
Cannot have players put hands on a ref but this was no Di Canio style incident as he barely pushed him on viewing the video highlight.
Worth noting that his club released a statement justifying a ban, but bemoaning the length of it as in their words he had previously played over 200 matches without earning a previous ban.
In todays game, i would imagine there is little to be afraid of here, especially on a free after two previous transfers of 50m.

I saw the highlights of the refereeing incident and I agree, it's hardly assault, but he shoves the referee in a very dismissive manner. Martins then receives a red card, and proceeds to give the referee a second shove in the chest. It's the second shove that compounds the matter.

As a sportsperson, you have to separate yourself from another sportsperson (who you can of course push back and forth) and then the people in charge, no matter how much they may be irking you.

We all had teachers at school we wanted to be physical with for their insulting and arrogant ways, but only cretins without any self discipline crossed the line and did that, and a few did cross the line at my school and were justifiably punished with expulsion.

Same, but then I’ve talked myself out of that
Its kind of that from my understanding too in that you still need a squad of 25 but have flexibility to swap players in and out of the 25 by something like midday the day before a game (For new players).

I think the normal rules apply in terms of home grown player numbers and things like that though.

You might gave to deselect existing players to make room but can do it on a game by game basis, I am basing this off of Football manager who does get this stuff spot on so if we sign Nino for example we will formally have to deselect McKenna from the 25 man squad to allow him to play.

That six month ban must have been reduced given he started the following season in August - according to transfermarkt he only actually missed six games.

Anyhow, if Nuno wants him in its go get him Fazza for me.

You surely can't just keep selecting and deselecting game by game though otherwise that would negate the point of the 25-man squad.

Anyway I'd prefer Jacob Murphy, if that link is still alive. We have a good track record with January signings from Newcastle 😃
