Interesting quote from the Moose

A situation that summarizes Guy Moussi: « I think that the Group was not working in a calm environment, that there were far too many players in the squad. Most of the players was for players to experience. At one point, when you work with a group comprising 30 players of experience, it is difficult to generate a positive atmosphere within it. Indeed, there are far too many players disappointed and frustrated not to be in the starting 11, on the bench, or even in the group. So, for me, this negativity generated all these injuries.

That is a very interesting extract, and perhaps some truth in it. I wouldn't necessarily say that the negativity was the cause of some of the injuries, but I would say negativity played a big part in our downfall which ultimately lead to 'his' sacking.

The overloaded squad definitely didn't help. Really hope Fawaz doesn't start forcing players onto Pearce too. I think he's learned his lesson now though surely.

And credit to Billy for getting the likes of Miller & Gillet loaned out. Did the best he could really.

Davies was still proclaiming to be '2 or 3 players short'

We were 7 or 8 players short, so he must have been understating!
We did lack suitable cover and also a good goalscorer so BD was right.

We were, 2-3 quality players. Pearce's signings show that. Davies just couldn't get rid of some of the dross which are now out of contract and which Pearce has. And his biggest critics slated him for doing things such as not bringing Miller back too

He dropped a bollock getting rid of Gillet when we were screaming for a holding midfielder post January

I think the main mistake was getting rid of Gueddy, and we'll never know whether that decision was down to Fazwaz, Billy or Gueddy's agent.

Davies was always short.

Do you recall his 1st stint when he had 29 central mid-fielders and he was still after more.

Moussi has a point. The squad should never be 30 or so players deep. In the end it doesn't really matter if you have that one unlucky season in which everyone is injured, whoever comes in to replace them will need time to settle in and get used to the other players, and that is only magnified if they have to train with 29 other players, so your side is still going to be weak whether or not you're relying on the academy players to fill in or if you get an expensive loan.

Squad should have a strong starting eleven, a backup for every position and a couple of guys who can play multiple positions.

Darlow, Evtimov
Lichaj, Halford (M)
Hobbs, Wilson, Lascelles, Laing, Collins
Cohen(M), Fox, Harding
Mackie
Lansbury, Vaughan, Majewski, Osborn
Paterson, Reid
Cox, Fryatt, Lars, Blackstock

Looking at that, get rid of Harding and Collins and replace with a right winger and a central midfielder and we're set. 23 man squad with quality all over. Draft in the kids if we've taken a big injury hit and need some players on the bench. Some might argue we need another striker but those four are plenty good enough to deliver a top six or more finish.

Absolutely crazy we've released 9 players (including Djebbour and Abdoun), only adding three, yet we could still do with stripping :)hey:) a couple more out.

Unless Gillet was another player with a bad/negative attitude? :dunno: how long did Pearce give him here?

Somehow I don't reckon Gillet is the sort to have an attitude problem.

Pearce got rid of all of the out of contract players. New broom & all that..
