Filippo Giraldi - Former Sporting Director

Murphy, the former Barnsley chief executive, is expected to leave this month with his position believed to have been under threat for some time.

It is understood there is frustration at the City Ground over suggestions that Murphy was pivotal in last year’s appointment of Cooper, who inherited a team bottom of the Championship and then steered them to promotion.

Lee Charnley, the former Newcastle managing director, is in line to replace Murphy.

George Syrianos, the head of recruitment, and head of scouting Andy Scott are also facing uncertain futures.

So does that mean they are sacking him because they feel they aren't getting enough credit for appointing Cooper? Surely bullshit.

Murphy isn‘t Sporting Director though, is he? So this Watford chap is presumably coming on the „football“ side?

Unless Murphy is just getting forced out as CEO and Charnley is taking that role?

Do Forest even have (or have they had) a Sporting Director?

Probably Marinakis Jnr as CEO?

Shame for Dane if true, I don't actually think we've made a *bad* signing.

We currently have Syrianos in-between Murphy and Cooper. Not a defacto sporting director though

I always thought CEO was the wrong title for Dane to be honest.

I don’t even think we’ve signed bad players, this whole situation is a mess.

Also if our new sporting director is in charge of hiring/firing we will have about 5 managers this month if Watford are owt to go by.

I think he replaces Dourekas who is Director of Football and also a board member.

Here's a different take from the comments section on the Athletic:

"Watford fan here. Imo, Giraldi is a very good sporting director. Was responsible for bringing the likes of Richarlison, Doucoure, Capoue, Pererya, Deulofeu, Joao Pedro etc to the club at a time when we were trying to establish ourselves back into the EPL, without a necessarily big transfer budget. Also bought in some great technical players in the first couple of seasons prior to promotion, so if NF do go down (yes I know, far too early to predict), I’d certainly back him to do a good job next summer regardless. Was made a bit of a scapegoat when we went down, and if u ask Watford fans they’ll probably agree that since he has left, and Giaretta has entered (new SD), the quality in recruitment has taken a steep nosedive with a lot more misses than hits."

When most would have gone for Wilder, Murphy picked Cooper, that in itself has me believe the bloke knows what he's doing. Theres a few unanswered questions with the new recruits, but not enough to suggest we need to rip the whole thing up.

We seem to always default to a Too many cooks approach when theres people at the club in the key positions that know what the f*** theyre doing.

Wasnt it a sporting director that f**ked about with Karanka?

Yes. As things stand, Sporting Director is on the same level as Director of Football. Of course Dourekas does no such thing, and if Murphy and his team go, then Giraldi will yield much more power, he will be the de facto Head of the Football Department.

I know you all love Murphy, and deservedly so, but Giraldi has an excellent reputation in recruitment.
