We're paying him to sit in the treatment room where we should be spending the money on other players who can play for us because they're not injured all the time.
That's an obligation whilst he's under contract though Stat.

Whether or not he plays many more games this season, which I personally doubt he will, he's made a significant contribution during his time here.

I wasn't implying he shouldn't be, but it isn't in anybody's best interests to pay a player who is clearly on a lot to sit around injured.

I would assume that we knew his knee was an issue when he signed but the situation we had with CBs last season meant he pretty much has to play because Niakhate got injured in like the 2nd game and missed most of the season then we got Boly in, then after deregistering Cook we lost Boly and McKenna in the same match leaving Worrall and Felipe as the only 2 left. So we didn't have anyone else and I think he played pretty much every minute from coming on vs Fulham to the Arsenal match when we secured staying up. I suspect by that point any plan they might have needed to use to manage the condition with his knees had gone out of the window (Ledley King was rumoured to have never trained) which probably would have made the issue much worse.

This season we have had other CBs available and not needed him as much so there's been the opportunity to rest him more.

If it's an injury which isn't really going to get better then the plan presumably is to play whilst not making it worse. If we look at Andy Murray, who reached the QFs of Wimbledon without being able to basically stand up by the end, managing that and trying to play on just made the issue worse, the last major damage was done when he lost in the French Open a few weeks before (to Wawrinka I think) then he lost in the first round at Queens with it to a Stoke player. But the real damage was presumably done the year before, I don't think it's a secret what the issue is with his hip, it had been an issue for years and I seem to recall something saying he was told when they identified it that if he carried on playing with it, he'd need a replacement when he finished. But in 2016 he played a lot of tennis as he reached 3 slam finals winning 1 and got right near the end of most tournaments which is why he ended up number 1 in the world. But all that running around on hard courts slogging after tennis balls for hours on end, 2-3 hours every other day for 6-7 weeks on end eventually made the issue much worse.

A footballer with an already dodgy knee playing 90 mins in pretty much all of the 2nd half of a PL season is going to be in a similar place.

We signed him for 18 months and he will presumably have a role to play this season. He is experienced and speaks the same language as a young prospect we have (so does Boly) and will no doubt have an influence in the matchday squad and in training even if he isn't playing.

The interesting stat of course is that Felipe only kept one clean sheet last season - the Arsenal match. Navas only has 2 with his debut vs Leeds being the other.

Felipe was incredible last season, but I think whatever we did to him to get him playing 90 minutes every week has finished him. The only one of the four PL games in he's played this season where he's looked competent he was playing against the oldest striker in the division who was playing his first game for 3 months.

A brilliant signing, but I think he should be the 5th choice of our 5 centre halves now.

Forgive my ignorance Stat, but I genuinely don't see what alternative you're suggesting?
Save wages by paying-off Felipe now and potentially leave us a couple of CB injuries away from having to play someone from the development group during the run-in?

Felipe still has a key role to play in my opinion.

Well that’s a google translate if ever I’ve seen one.

Sad news but the cat was already out of the bag wasn’t it? Must be injuries taking their toll.

He was f***ing great last season though; I can’t believe in the space of a couple of years I went from watching shite like Micahel Hefele stinking out the place, to watching a full Brazilian international centre half in the garibaldi.

Boa sorte Felipe, and thanks for the memories.

If his last act was not getting sent off for strangling that rat face then he can't exactly go out on much higher

Top chap, master of the dark arts and a massive handsome bleeder, he was great last season and in all honesty his grabbing up of Fernandes was a highlight for me the other week too!

Cheers Felipe!

It's been a pleasure to watch this guy play. He's been a wonderful model pro and I suspect he's helped a lot of the younger players too.

Can leave with his head held high.

Also, he's a bloody handsome chap.

My sister and nephew saw him leaving the training ground. I understand my sister melted into a puddle, and if I had been there, so would I! 😍🥰😘😍🥰😘

Thank you Felipe. For all you did for us last season, for the remainder of this season and for throttling that snivelling little shit.

An absolute Rolls Royce of a centre back. Knows his best days might now be behind him and deserves to bow out at the top.
Thank you Felipe.
