Euro 2028 in The UK & Ireland

The UK and Ireland have submitted a joint-bid for the Euro 2028 championship; here are the 14 proposed stadi:

No place for the World Famous City Ground though (three stadiums in London, of course).
I think the UK is unlikely to be given because of their conflict with the EU. Turkey, on the other hand, is more likely

So ... Euro 2028 in the UK & Ireland.

Will all "home" teams get a free pass ?

Turkey have dropped out, so it looks like „last man standing“ and Euro 2028 will be played in the U.K. & Ireland.

Get on with that ground expansion, Forest.

The British only need little old Ireland when they need a partner to make them look decent.

Wondering if we've seen the end of single nations hosting these events now. Looks like 2032 will be a joint Italy/Turkey jobbie

It would be okay if it was logical.

For example UK & Ireland. A joint Balkan bid, Spain + Portugal. Tournaments are money pits for countries so it's only those that want to legitimize their rule that do it and that rules out a huge amount of countries.

The Italy + Turkey, USA + Canada + Mexico, Greece + Saudi Arabia - they are all just so stupid and make it a logistical nightmare for supporters.

I'd be pissed off as an Italian fan, are they being forced into taking Turkey on board here. Why don't they just stick to their guys and fight it out.

Is it because UEFA will feel sorry for Turkey missing out on 2028 and give them the edge in 2032?

As if they give 2 fooks about supporters.

I kinda get our bid. The rest of the home nations and Ireland are never going to get something like this on their own. One for the little guys.

But Italy/Turkey? Just sounds really shit.

The weird thing about an Italy-Turkey joint bid is that both countries have plenty of decent enough stadia to host it on their own.

Italy certainly does, and Turkey, although it’s never hosted a major tournament, has enough stadiums to do so as well.

The problem is the cost is ruinous, and that’s why some countries want to team up. And it makes it rubbish for supporters, especially if - as in the case of a joint Italian-Turkish tournament - your only realistic option is travelling between the two countries by air.

Only countries like Saudi can afford to run it single country. And, if you look around, nearly all those are countries you wouldn't choose for a holiday.

I dare anyone to watch the winning bid videos for both tournaments and not wince.

There is some doubt that Casement Park in Belfast will be ready, given the previous stadium there hasn’t been used for over a decade and is now basically a wreck, notwithstanding the political complications of playing football in a GAA venue (and that, in a hugely nationalist part of Belfast as well).

Northern Ireland‘s Windsor Park isn’t viable either, as it’s capacity is sub-20k, nowhere near big enough.

Oh, and about Casement Park - or, Páirc Mhic Easmainnt to give it its proper name - if you’ve never heard of Sir Roger Casement - for whom the GAA stadium is named - look him up; he was a very interesting chap and has a huge part in the history of Ireland.

Did any of the countries actually bid for the tournaments for the next ten years?

Or did they just say "I think we might bid for this that or the other" and the relevant institution snapped their hand off before they could say no?

There might be something in this!

I don’t know why England didn’t just bid on our own. Would be far less complicated and we have better stadia then what Scotland, NI, or ROI can offer. Even wales stadium could be replaced easily in number by old Trafford. I know qualifying is easier now (even Scotland qualified for the last one) but doesn’t this mean England, wales, ROI, NI and Scotland will qualify automatically?
