English Football League clubs gone bust?

Has any football league team ever gone bust? By that i mean at the time they went bust they were in the football league and not conference.

I only ask as Bournemouth are seemingly on the verge of going down the pan, or will some suger daddy always takeover at the last minute like Southampton.

Aldershot went pop a few years ago; and I think the 'original' Accrington Stanley ("Who're they") also went bust at one point?

I know Gretna Green went down the pan, but thats scottish league isn't it.

They dropped out of the league and Annan Athletic successfully reapplied for their place.

Well of course their have been plenty of clubs that have gone bust, and then being bought out.

Very difficult to establish between going out of business through liquidation, merger or just naturally running out of steam, but try this link and do some more digging!

Usual protocol is for the highest place releagted team from each division, starting with the division
that the defunct club were in, being redeemed from relegation.

Yes, it used to say 1986 on their badge to show when they were made solvent again.

Fiorentina went bust and had to start again from the lower leagues.

Not english but welsh club called Newport County went bust back in the 80's! Now playing in the conference south!

haha true.

i have an anecdote about Shipperly.

Towards the end of the 2003-2004 season and we were playing good football under Kinnear, and we played Palace at home.

We were one nil up, or drawing 1-1, and i said to mate "Look at Shipperly, useless fat play....."

then he banged one in the top corner.

I remember Newport getting relegated from the football league and then going bust in the late 80's
