English Flag

So, Dave Cameron will be, quite rightly flying the flag at Downing street.

According to the press this has caused outrage.

Anyone here object? Even youre Scottish surley you can identify with the current atmosphere and excitement at watching England in the World Cup?

Apparantly, Scots are unhappy because the Union Flag should be flying instead, as if to say we are a nation....despite voting in the SNP MP's in their legions........

On one hand they are happy to be British when it suits (IE Tax money to buy the next 4 pack, or battered mars bars) but when it comes to elections they dont want to be part of the UK?........and sport......?

What is going on in Scotland. Face it, you didn't get to the world cup because you were not good enough. Get behind the country that pays your way.

There, Ive said it.

Is there really outrage? Has anybody got a quote from somebody who is outraged about it?

Or did the Daily Mail/Express say that people would be outraged?

Other than (during the World Cup)
10 June (Birthday of The Duke of Edinburgh )
12 June (Official Celebration of Her Majesty’s Birthday )

the Government can fly whatever flag it chooses on its buildings. On those two days they can fly a St George Cross ONLY if they have two or more flagpoles on the building.

If this pisses off the Scots, Welsh etc, then tough.

If a Scottish Assembly building chooses to fly a Cross of St. George then that's up to them, and a matter for local discussion.

This is England. The Cross of St. George is the flag of England. Fly the sodding thing. :)

Speaking of flying the flag - from the Department of Culture, Media and Sport, on the subject of planning permission & flagpoles...

DCMS said:
Q. Do I need planning permission?

Under Schedule 1 Class H of the Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisements) (England) Regulations 2007, national flags, the flags of the Commonwealth, European Union, the United Nations, English counties and certain saints can be flown without the express consent of local authorities as long as they satisfy the standard conditions for the display of advertisements generally and the conditions and limitations set out within Class H itself.
For saints' flags, the conditions are that they can only be flown in the county with which the saint is associated. This means that the St Piran's flag may be flown freely in Cornwall, but express consent would be required for it to be flown elsewhere in England.
If any of these flags are to be flown no further planning permission is needed for the flag pole, however it may be required if other flags are to be flown.

:)

Great. A story about untrue reactions to flag flying which closet racists can leech onto, using what they call patriotism to display their true colours (no pun intended) as is always the case. There is no outrage, no one is offended by flags. No one. Don't give these idiotic people the fuel they need to spout their drivel.

I for one will be proudly fly my Ivory Coast flag.

I'll be proudly flying the white dragon.

Btw, patriotism is loyalty to the state, not a race/folk/nation.

Got to love the daily mail

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...hreatened-sack-support-England-World-Cup.html

Just to point out these bans rarely come from real Health and Safety people - its a convenient excuse used by some local authorities ban anything from cheese rolling and playing conkers (its the reason IOSH sponsor the world conker championships).

http://www.hse.gov.uk/myth/apr10.htm

The reason that local authorities are over cautious is they are paranoid about being sued for injury. I dare say that a lot of people that complain about the nanny state would be straight down to a no win no fee solicitor if they tripped on a conker fallen from a council owned tree therefore perpetuating the situation that annoys them so much.

Burn no win no fee solicitors. Simple. Just do a suitable and sufficient risk assessment first.

I am outraged by David Cameron. Can't we send him to South Africa?

some papers always try to make something out of nothing.

There was a Scott on SSN who was going to SA to support England most likely a Rangers fan but good to see.

In my office in Wales, everyone is spitting feathers about it and spent all day ranting. I went shopping after work and Cwmbran town centre is full of 'anyone but England' shirts.

I'm moving back to England next month. This glorious contryside is wasted on the small minded fuckwits I'm surrounded by. I'd very much like to take their multi-billion pound subsidy from England with me.

3 in every 4 jobs in Wales is within the public sector, primarily funded by English taxpayers.

I wonder how the sheepshaggers view that:nowink:

Good old David, at last a Prime MInister who is proud to be first and foremost an Englishman

At last indeed. Doesn't matter he's about to ruin a huge number of peoples lives, as long as he flies a flag he's superb.

The Scotts and Welsh don't like it....
So what. Their teams aren't in the World Cup and no one is forcing them to watch it.
It's akin to Notts fans getting pissed off when Forest were at Wembley and the council flew our flag. Of course they aren't going to like it but that's no reason not to do it.
