Got to think if Dennis does come he's going to be the No. 1 striker, that leaves 17m Awoniyi on the bench.

I'm sure that wasn't what he expected when he signed, tough job for Steve to keep eveyone happy, that's got to be one of the most difficult tasks of any manager in the prem though I guess with such large squads of quality players.

Most Premier League clubs will have £17m players on the bench

It may be unusual to the world we are used too but not in the PL.

If someone would have told me in June that I’d be buzzing about our Nigerian striker, I would have been ecstatic that Awoniyi hit the ground running.

Either way, let’s have it.

We’ll have a forward worth over £15m on the bench no matter what if we complete this. Not a horrid place to be. Get a foothold in midfield by the end of the month and we could be in for a treat come a very winnable September run

This boy definitely fits Cooper's style of play and importantly, he's proven in the Premierleague.
It's not just going to not allow Awoniyi to rest on his laurels because he's come in as the new man.
It's going to push Surridge AND Johnson that they are going to have to deliver if they want to play.

Very excited about this.

I did say it was the tough job of prem managers. Just hope we can keep harmony in the squad. No better person than coops to do that though.

Nottingham's dirty secret
Slightly surprised we didn't go in for this lad prior to Taiwo.

Not writing Taiwo off by any means- but Dennis just seems to be more of a Cooper style player, is proven in the Prem and just seems to tick all of the boxes and more at a similar price.

Not grumbling. Just a beer induced observation.

I think Tiawo has been on the 'value list' for a while

Was watching a youtube video of him earlier and a random comment mentioned him being like Gabriel Jesus but with more muscle.

Now I know he's not quite at that quality level but I understand the style comparison and £20m over £45m for a decent striker is more than worth it.

I’m so into the deal because he is the natural replacement to Spence

…I know, I know, different positions but he can provide that electricity that gets the crowd and team going. Driving us up the pitch.

I don’t think we have anyone else in the squad who does that.

And since everyone loves wheels, here's a comparison between him and Richarlison last season

He's in the 90th percentile for tackles, interceptions and pressure applied for forwards in the PL. Only two players ahead of him last season were Richarlison and Joaoa Pedro

Nice comparison. 60 million was it?

Based on those stats, I'm struggling to see how and why we don't have more competition for his signature

Sauce salad?
I've been reading up on his attitude - he's known as a hot-head, a previous club had issues with his body language on the pitch as he was seen to be sulky/easily annoyed. Seems there he hasn't always put the running in either. Fell out with the national coach, and yes, coach seats. Off the pitch he had a minor run in with the police too.

He lost his brother around this time though, so I think it's fair to say his emotional state might have taken a hit - could be that he's channeling that loss now into making a real go of things for himself and has turned a corner in terms of attitude. No issues to speak of at Watford, so hopefully it was a maturity thing with him that he is now over, sadly probably because of the wake up call from his personal loss.

There's a risk with him but I really hope we take it.

The other thing to note was that there was a core of Nigerian players at Watford, which was felt would be beneficial to him - good news in terms of Taiwo and might explain why we are after the other forward?

There are some flaws in his game too, he can be a bit naive when it comes to decision making. He'll sometimes opt to carry the ball in areas where he has better options around him, has been guilty of overplaying in transition and is prone to taking risks in areas that you don't really want to be taking risks. Despite having an incredible ability of riding challenges he also gets brushed off the ball fairly easily by more physical defenders

I think a lot of these flaws can be put down to naivety as he was still getting to grips with the EPL. Due to the nature of the player you have to find a balance which gives him his creative freedom and encourages his natural desire to take players on while also improving his decision making in certain areas, and who better to do that than Cooper?

Without being too disrespectful he spent half of the season playing under Hodgson at Watford who I don't think understands the concept of attacking patterns, so there's no surprise he had to do almost everything his self considering how useless their entire forward line was. To score 10 goals in that Watford side was a genuinely incredible return given how utterly shit and poorly coached they were across the entire pitch

Another thing of note with Dennis is his heading, he's only about 5'8 but has a surprising heading ability due to his leap and timing which means he's a constant threat with left foot, right foot and also his head.

Overall he's incredible value for money but he does require a bit of fine tuning, in my opinion he has more playing talent than Richarlison but is behind when it comes to the mental side of the game. Give him time in a proper team under a proper coach and I think we'll have ourselves a very entertaining, effective and proven premier league forward

Good post mate, when he was linked I was excited obviously about the player we'd be getting but also I think if he has another season like last year and adds that fine tuning you're talking about the resale value is massive. You mention Richarlison, I had in mind Raphinha at Leeds, they bought him for £16m or so, had him for two seasons and sold him for £50m+ and his numbers in terms of goals + assists in both seasons were lower than Dennis' were last season.
