Signings like this generally go one of two ways..... could be absolutely brilliant over here or a complete flop.

I understand the "oh my God, the new Abdoun" fears, but Dinamo Zagreb is a very well run club with a steady European presence; its market value is actually much higher than yours. If Soudani has so spectacular numbers there, he must be doing something right.

In any case, if the Algerian press is correct that your bid was turned down, I doubt you'll go much higher for a 30-year old.

You're talking about a club who paid 2 million for a 32 year old not so long ago...

*edit* looking at the youtube clips, he will be fantastic against the unorganised or completely missing defences that we get in the champ...

Murphy is 35 in March. We paid £2m for a 34-year-old.

1) The music on the video was brilliant.
2) Are we still using Fawaz's scouting reports from Football Manager?

I wonder how Leeds fans reacted when they signed Sáiz from the Spanish second division or Alioski from the Swiss league...

If EAHS was as young as those pair were I'd be far more confident of him being able to adapt to a new culture & style of football.

Time will tell, but again it all seems very mish-mash. I mean, wasn't sacking warbs meant to mean Vellios would get more games? :dunno:

I think the point is we need someone to come in & hit the ground running.

This lad has done that wherever he's played, including international level.

If he has problems adapting, they're not obvious in his back catalogue.

well it didn't take long for the Leeds pair to adapt anyway. He might hit the ground running, or he might turn out to be crap or we might not even sign him and it's just purely paper talk who knows?

I'll agree that our foreign imports of late haven't been amazing but that doesn't mean every foreigner we sign from now on and for the rest of time will be shit.

As for Vellios who knows, some have gone way over the top with him, he's an alright striker who scored a couple of crackers last season and few goals in pre-season and suddenly he's our answer to Harry Kane in some peoples eyes. There's probably a reason MW, Brazil and now seemingly Karanka haven't used him.

That's my point mate. Moving to Britain and playing in the Championship is an entirely different ball game.

May work, may not, but we've entered back into the realms of Fawaz-esq gambles.

Because they're in their early/mid 20's. You're more set in your ways after 30.

Sorry mate, but after the likes of Lica & Carayol it doesn't fill me with confidence.

I just think there's other prioties to address, and Vellios could cover this chaps role.

I won't judge beforehand too much tho, it just shows signs of operating the same which which nearly relegated us last year. Hopefully there'll be a lot more to it.

I’m sorry I know I’m giving my opinion without going into a 1000+ word explanation of why not, and I haven’t worked at a level that the scouts have that have targeted this guy. But it’s a no thanks from me.

We have a terrible record of bringing in players new to this league. Pinillos, Oliveria and possibly Vellios aside pretty much every import we have made has been a costly mistake.

I liked the idea of consolidating our squad with some proven Championship experience with signings like Bridcutt for a few seasons.

That said, every management team deserves a clean slate so if Karanka wants him, so be it. He certainly looks the part in the video and has a good record.

Purchasing from the domestic market during this window is disproportionately expensive, particularly in terms of goalscorers.

Assuming there's any truth in this, maybe this lad is seen as a less-expensive, relatively short-term option, with, as Mase alludes to, a record of adapting quickly.

Those who quite rightly point out our defensive deficiencies should also recognise that (the FA Cup aside) the goals have, quite alarmingly, dried-up.

“Fawaz-esq gambles”.

These guys have an extensive scouting network across Europe, Fawaz had a few phone numbers of people looking for a final pay day. Hardly comparable.
