I've been given the name tonight. Nothing more to add at this stage other than we are interested.

33 years old. Won't come cheap.
I've got no idea what the financials would possibly look like on him tbh. It's clear Coops knows we are going to need genuine firepower because anything less gets you relegated. I see the logic, he could be the Cook of our frontline and he's got Premier League experience and goals.

Maybe the interest is weighing up what he would cost against Dennis who's supposedly around £25M

More chance of Dusan Boyle

If we could do something cheap and on another 1 year deal I wouldn't mind it, he'd offer us another physical presence up top

He'll be used to having as much of the ball as he wants at Ajax and here we're pretty clearly building a quick and energetic counter attacking team. Not sure how he'd fit in with that really, nice player though.

Yeah, he would be the first player we would sign where you wouldn’t see where he fits in the team.

I'm inclined to agree with both heff and Rzar although I had reservations with the Cook signing

He's a quality player, if I remember right from Southampton he is good from set pieces too? Maybe he also has a great attitude and work ethic? He has been around a bit too, so will offer different perspectives and potentially leadership.

Given that it's an unusual signing i would expect even more research will have been done to ensure he provides the team with something different. We're going to need a squad to get by this season, not just a starting 11 plus 5 or 6 who we can bring in.

I'm not sure I get why he would join us other than for the money. he has Champions League football once more at Ajax. Maybe he's on his way out now Ten Haag has left?

He's more of a technical/inventive creator than a physical presence I'd say - if we really are interested it'd be more likely as a MGW alternative or a player to be in the squad for a year or two while we wait for Scarpa and/or Aguilera to arrive in the team. Either way, could it be the first choice formation would even be a back 4, with Lingard (or Tadic) playing more from the left? Obviously it's a squad game nowadays and with 5 subs a game potentially, so not necessarily.

I'd doubt he'd be an alternative to a striker or a general attacker like Dennis (except arguably both Dennis and Tadic could play from the left side of attack I think).

I remember he was a good assister at Southampton, but he really made his mark in the Champions League run Ajax had a few years back. He's still scoring quite regularly and assisting regularly too in Dutch football apparently.
Having looked at that, I'm wondering if Dane and Steve would be just as interested in Jesper Karlsson, or possibly Cody Gakpo now though lol, after searching out their Youtube vids!

I'd have some doubts we'd really go for Tadic right now, but if we are we are....!

This rumour would be Gold if true.

He's that good Cooper could play him anywhere.
4 years Premiership experience
Tough as old boots. Rarely gets an injury. Barely missed a game in 16 seasons.
Dutch Footballer of the Year 20/21.
Ajax captain in the CL.
He'd be someone pretty much everyone in the squad would look up to I'd imagine including Lingard.

Your only risk would be whether he still wants to put it in for another year at 33.

I'm struggling to believe this one is true, but my word ....

Yeah I agree, this would be really special and would really firm up the final striker and attacking mid spot. We could play him anywhere and even drop back to centre mid if he's still mobile. And the fact he's played so many games, leads me to think he's very much someone who just wants to play. I'd love him here. He'd be a starter though, so who misses out - intriguing.
