Don't mess with Norwich City!

Unveil our new kit before we do? You're nicked son.

A 17-year-old Norwich City fan has angered the club he supports by leaking pictures of its new kit 12 hours before the official launch.

The football club called in the police after IT student Chris Brown published the images on the internet.

Chris has apologised to the club, which said it would protect its intellectual property at all times.

The teenager, from Norwich, managed to obtain the pictures from the Canaries' website as it was being updated.

He was visited by the police after a complaint from the football club.

The teenager said: "I'm sorry for any offence I might have caused to the club, but I would never do anything malicious or spiteful because I do have an interest and love the football club."

His mother Trish Brown said: "He knows he's probably done wrong by taking it a bit further, but that was just excitement to show other people what he had done."

The club's chief executive David McNally said he had asked for a report into what happened.

"We will protect our property and, in this digital age, that means our intellectual property."

The club has not said if it will pursue the matter any further legally

A Geordie mate of mine was Chairman of the Newcastle Utd Official Fan Club in Joburg which had a very large membership, was very active and did a massive amount to promote the club. However he was disgusted when the Club refused to let them use the NUFC Club Badge on any Fan Club Teeshirts, Flyers, Posters or fund raising products.

Some clubs treat their fans the way politicians treat their voters. Give us your support and money and then just Feck Orf!

I think our club does a similar thing with fansites using the forest logo? Or it didnt it?

Maybe ive imagined that!

I wanted the Forest logo printed on a flag, and the printers refused to do it because it was a copyrighted image and they didn't have permission to reproduce it. The bloke telling me this sounded like he was talking utter bollocks, because he reckons he'd spoken to a few local clubs about about using their logos for flags / t-shirts etc, and they had all told him he couldn't do it.

I don't know or care what the law is, so I went to a different printing place and as you would expect - they did it with no questions asked.

They have done, in the past.

Bit petty mind, as is the Norwich over-reaction.

That'll stand up nicely in court...

Norwich are being over-the-top, I don't see what harm leaking the pictures (or brewing that beer) really did, but clubs have a right to protect their branding. Technically we shouldn't use the Forest logo on the forum, but we're not taking revenue away from the club so they probably don't care. If we started making and selling our own merchandise with the Tricky Tree on it, that would be a different matter.

I think it's fair deal considering they sell "Lost That Lovin Feeling" T-Shirts.

Also we don't have the word Forest under the tree which i'm sure would cause more of an issue. Vital and Forestfans use the same tree logo with out the text, talk forest used to have the tree but are still 'wearing' the black armband (and they said we should get over it!).

Apparently Norwich City have now apologised to the guy in question for over-reacting.

Mind, this is Norfolk; he's lucky they didn't drag him into a Wicker Man and burn him alive!

I understand the badge, but they can't lay claim to "on the ball" surely!

Thats what i'd have thought. I wonder if they tried to sue the FA and ant and dec for their song "we're on the ball"

Its scary when you hear football clubs talking about "intellectual property"

That can't be referring to any of the footballers then.

Unless it's Clarke 'Countdown' Carlisle of course.

Except if he's so clever, why does he only play for Northampton?

Maybe they'll claim ownership of him too!

We didn't invent that song though. We'll be sued by Phil Spector next we know...

I don't think it makes any difference. The club have more pressing legal issues at the moment (actually so does Phil Spector!) though so we're safe for the time being!
