Does anyone remember League 1 Derby County? (STILL the worst team in history!)

So if someone can't pay for a Season Ticket outright but could afford to go to each home match and pay on the gate then they should be prevented from using finance?

I couldn't afford to buy my house outright.

So I used this thing called a Mortgage (translation Grip of Death) that allows me to pay for my house monthly for the foreseeable future.

Are you saying its irresponsible for me to do this?

I just can’t agree. If you ultimately can’t afford it, or in this case can’t afford it without entering a debt trap, you shouldn’t be going.

Stuff like this is why people end up in never ending spirals of debt, trapped by predatory lenders.

It’s just irresponsible. Can’t fathom how Rams Trust think promoting this is a good idea.

It’s a grey area, again speaking from experience and being at the sharp end of the FCA to a point where I lost a job and career you’d be amazed at peoples habits and attitudes towards lending, borrowing £500 for a stag do when they’re already overdrawn and using multiple lenders seems madness to me and in the beginning I’d feel bad for following the process, but when you challenged anyone they’d still transact.

some people can’t be helped, others have a genuine problem and think borrowing to buy makes things better ( they get a high from it), awful, sadly some had no option and were borrowing for a legitimate reason (in my eyes )

Not sure if this was aimed at me Red ?

Yes agree re mortgages, but housing is essential, paying weekly if they have the income spare or not as the case maybe would be my personal option, especially as I’m a tight bugger 😂 each to their own , on the flip side Derby as Forest is too some it’s their life so a few quid extra on APR might be a bargain ?

There is a big difference between using finance for essentials (i.e. housing) and entertainment/leisure activities (as much as we love the clubs we support, tickets to football matches are at the end of the day a luxury/ entertainment), in my opinion.

Personally I think recommending high interest borrowing for an entertainment product isn't a responsible thing to do, especially recommending this to people on low incomes.

it's down to each individual
if I can afford to go to every home match and pay on the gate, why can't I get a 12-month loan and save myself approx £100?

Season ticket, outright: £350
Season ticket, 42% Apr: £495
Matchday ticket, £25 * 23: £575

Keith is the local alcoholic and just cannot stop going to the pub, but he can't afford to go every night - however all his mates are there and if he took out an 42% APR loan to spread the cost of the booze, he would be able too. It would allow Keith to spend time with his friends and doing the thing he enjoys.

It's no different is it? It may make it viable but it's not the wise thing to do.

This. A season ticket is not a day-to-day essential, no one should be racking up debts to attend football matches.

At least buying tickets on a match-by-match basis gives people the option to miss games that they can't afford. A loan commits someone to making a repayment, which is a huge problem for those who can't keep up with repayments.

Anyway, I'm sure we recently had a finance scheme for season tickets in place and I bet a few have put the cost on a credit card.

Shameful.

I'm dizzy from being up here on this moral high ground with you all!
That was at 0% APR.

No concerns about people wanting to spreading the cost, finance plans are something a lot of supporters use.

But not at 42% APR. That's my main issue here, not the payment plans themselves.

In fairness to Derby fans, it isn't just us that think that their Trusts recommending high interest borrowing is an awful idea either. Responses to that tweet are pretty much universal condemnation.

I'm just astounded that the fans have to pay to watch Derby at, surely that's a case of adding insult to injury!

I would suggest it having to be the other way around but let's be honest Derby don't even pay HMRC so they wouldn't be a reliable source of income.

It was a one off payment of £63 at 16.74% APR

Going to the match on a game by game basis is effectively an APR of 68% but that appears not to be a concern.

Can you not just buy a new mobile phone and get a free season ticket?

So what yer saying Eyup is this could be the new PPI scandal?

“I bought a season ticket on the pretence that I’d watch Derby play football and they haven’t“,

a good claim specialist could get you a £1000 compensation on a technicality 🤨

were you miss-sold a Derby season ticket? You could be due compensation…..

contact Bonfire and Co 🤔

If PPI = Pride Park Idiots then I endorse this move into claims management but you will have to ensure any claimant only receives 25% of the compo due to claims management firm admin costs.

I don’t think analogue phones work on the current network anymore.

Well I’ve been banned for throwing the same insult back as what I received when I originally reported Kirchner’s dodgy background..

I was told, “you’ve made a right twat of yourself” for highlighting the fact Slync employees were claiming that they weren’t being paid.

It’s all Forest fans creating fake reviews to discredit Kirchner.. He’s got a plane and a Ferrari

So so so naive. They’ll never learn.

If you want to go to games then go for it, but if you have to take out a damn loan for a football match - and pay 40% APR to do so - you should probably reevaluate your priorities.

A mortgage gives you somewhere to live. It’s slightly more important than a football game..
