Does anyone remember League 1 Derby County? (STILL the worst team in history!)

Mr RayReardon

Jack Burkitt
They've sold most of the decent academy lads to keep the lights on, thanks to Quantuma refusing to sell any first team players in January. There will undoubtedly be other departures (Knight, Byrne and Bird in particular) who won’t want to hang around to play in the third tier.

Hourihane is a decent player, hard to say whether McGoldrick still has enough in the tank for League One. As for the rest, pretty much dregs from the freebie market.
I'm surprised nobody else came in for Hourihane.. Thought he's a decent player. But, Barnsley have had a good look at him and decided not to go back for him so can't be much cop anymore. McGoldrick had a good career after us, but he's only ever had two good seasons in terms of goals - even in League One I doubt it'll be any different. If those kids do go, they'll really be f**ked

Quantuma's actions in January have proper f**ked them over; most of the first team players they tried to keep have left on free transfers anyway and having sold the crown jewels of their academy they haven't got a set of talented youngsters to build a team around.

Bird and Knight are the only players they have of any real value, and they sure as shit aren't going to want to play in League One. That leaves them with a handful of dregs left over from last season (including a very expensive biscuit in Bielik) and a load of knackered old journeymen. At this rate, they'll probably have one of the oldest and slowest teams in the league.

Yep.. McGoldrick moved backwards in his early 20s. Lord only knows who slow he'll be now!

Surprised I haven't seen any bids come in for Knight and Bird - but then again - I'm too busy watching Forest splash millions!!

I'm sure Bird and Knight will move on before the window closes, but like you I have been too busy following Forest's business to look at what vultures are circling to pick the last bits off of Derby's carcass. 😂

I notice they've chirped up now over in Mordor on the Forest thread. Went quiet for weeks before now they sign a few geriatrics and they're buzzing. I can remember when our expectations were that low...

I think they will end up selling Bird and Knight deffo before this window closes. They are two guaranteed starters right now so f*** knows who they will get to replace them. They are going to have to no doubt start a couple young guys who are not even close to senior level ready, I don't see that they have any choice.

I know I have said this before, but just looking at their squad versus others in League One, I don't think their fans truly understand how much of an uphill battle this is going to be just to stay up this season. I guess from their perspective as long as they stay up its fine just glad to still have a club.

Fair enough I suppose, but the delusions of grandeur that they expect from the washed up players they have signed so far is quite bizarre tbh. Anything to get positive about I guess.

I’m living for this ‘we can only pay players £8k a week!’ pleading poverty nonsense.

The average weekly wage in League one is somewhere between £1800 and £2500 a month. £8k a month is a championship wage. They are not making championship money.

This is going to end badly again.

To be fair we were the same when we went down there that we would "walk it" and look what happened.

I'm sure Sunderland, Sheff Wed, Leeds, Ipswich Etc. All thought the same.

Can't give them too much stick as will be just happy to have a club to support still but I haven't really paid much attention to them recently as the clubs are miles apart now both on and off the pitch, which is Ironic as not long ago we were saying they are in a much better place than us.

I'm sure reality will set whilst we are all watching the World Cup in December and they are being turned over bu Burton Albion and Forest Green Rovers sitting 17th in the League.

How long before the fans turn on the manager and new owner? 6 Months?

He really is a simpleton, with the intellectual grasp of a fish.

Has he ever thought of running as an MP?

I actually think they've assembled a half decent side, as long as some their better academy lads stick about..
Perhaps, given as other have noted, their academy lads have already largely been pillaged, and some of their senior players want out - 'Half a decent side' would be more appropriate than 'a Half decent side'?

Half a side is probably more accurate, on reflection

Also, if the 65m reported price is true - they did make an example of them, they just managed to find an idiot that would pay full whack.
Champagne all round at HMRC, then?

It is of course possible that - for example - we read the Stadium went for £24m or so, it may well be that the actual club (or more accurately, the limited company behind it) was sold for a nominal £1, and then the balance of the mooted £65m has gone to pay historic debt?

I can see 58 year old Bojo getting a 2 year deal with them now, all paid for by the new shirt sponsors Stannah Stairlifts.

I'm assuming you mean a week, rather than a month. :)
