The fact that the club was considering sending him back and replacing him with Chuba bloody Akpom tells you all you need to know.

Hoping once Taiwo is back both he and Wood stay fit for the rest of the season so we don't have to see Origi again.
I actually think Chuba bloody Akpom would have been a decent add. Certainly more so than the Portuguese kid we can't use because he's nowhere near ready (yet).

I think we got lucky in that Wood's injury wasn't as bad as feared - but my take is Akpom is about as like for like as you can get for him, and would have contributed had it come off.

To be fair Akpom might have been worth a punt for a couple of mil, but definitely not for the fees that were being quoted at the time
While I agree he was pricey, you're never getting him for a couple of million - what did they pay? 12m? Iirc we offered loan to 15m buy, paid next season based on us staying up.

Hardly surprising they said no, but not too bad an offer imho - while it's more than I'd have paid it offered them profit on a player who will depreciate over contract of say 6m based on what they already will have paid - and what was it, 39 goals in the season and a half up to point of offer? And no pay until next year if we get that revenue?

I don't think Akpom would have been much better than Origi to be honest. He's never been great besides that one season at Boro and that is with spending most of his career at a lower level than the Premier League.

I don't think he's worth anywhere near what Ajax paid for him personally

Like I said two or three mil he might have been worth the risk, but as you say they would never accept fees like that for him

It's all about opinions, and if nothing else he'd have given us an option that Origi doesn't seem to be able to despite coming in as one... a striker!

You realise what forum you're asking to ignore the past right?

I didn’t say ignore the two European cups!

Ignoring the Fawaz era might be the best for everyone’s health if we’re being real.

I'm not judging him by his loan spell here, I barely remember it.

His career since then hasn't been steller bar that one season at Boro.

There probably isn't much between him and Origi either way IMO. I don't think either are good enough for this level.
Also I don't remember Akpom having a decent bash at the champions league

Akpom is 6 goals in 8 games as a CAM this year too - perhaps we'll be in for him as MGW cover/replacement in the summer?

(I'm sorry, couldn't resist!)

Memory a bit hazy but Origi has had 3-4, perhaps more, really good chances? all similar where he has been in excellent positions from the right and failed to score. Really disappointing, and if starting or even from bench we need him to make an impact. 3 goals from bench till end of season could be priceless-fingers crossed!!

With Origi, my Liverpool supporting work colleague always says he 'scored important goals' for them.

We will probably have our own version - he 'scored an accidental goal' for us.

As an incentive, Forza need to produce a tifo display of a pair of barn doors and put this up behind the goal. Even then, he'd still fail to score.

He would probably hit the tifo instead.

At the moment not scoring in a brothel comes to mind.
Mind you, when he does get a Prem goal there will be no stopping him.
