Good luck to him, he gave us an excellent season - and pretty sure he was a bit of a last minute panic signing as well.

But we can replace him. There is lots of good players in that position.

I hope we respond to this by announcing contract extensions sharpish. I would probably expect them this week as I assume Cooper especially will be back from holidays.

He was very good for us last season but at the same time, if you look at him and Cashy, Cashy went for £15m and he was the better player with more diversity in terms of where he could play.

£12m is the price that Spence was about worth, best on everything.
You'd pay a couple million extra in Premierleague Tax to Boro for signing him so about 14-15m.
£20m is what you can pay for him when you're a staple of the Premierleague and your revenue is through the roof.

Sad that he won't be joining us on our journey but it will be interesting to see if he kicks on in Spurs' team.

If our recruitment can increase a player's value by 15m in a season, it can do it again.

Trust the process.

Remember he was a last minute signing in last year's window, did we fail to get a right to buy due to time running out? (Or did Middleborough refuse to have a sell clause)

Got to be honest I personally thought Spence was better than Cash, but they are certainly two of the best players I have seen for Forest over the past 20+ years.

I'm surprised by this transfer though, I remember when we sold Dawson & Reid to them that they had a thing for signing promising young talent but it never really pushed them on. In recent years they seemed to have become another club looking abroad, so it will be interesting what a 21yo with only one season under his belt can do in a league he isn't proven in. Personally I really hope he does well

It's between Cash, Spence and Nicky Eaden for best RB I've seen at Forest

We couldn’t agree on the fee as time was running out.

They wanted 7m.

Let's be fair, if we'd paid 7m for Spence on deadline day last season then there would probably have been armageddon on here about how the club was being profligate spending loads on players not even in rivals' teams and the like.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. The fact we didn't hasn't potentially gone our way this time but might have been a totally different situation.

Never mind, 7m is a lot for a championship club. No one would have committed to 7m for Spence at that stage of his career.

We are at least 170m better off now.

Do they still think Jones is better than Spence?

Bid of 10m for Jones?

Who do you do, keep Jones and 20m or Spence and 10m?

Exactly. Based on where we were then he was worth a couple of mill max. Imagine if he'd pissed it up the wall and been a total pain in the arse last year and we'd paid 7M for him!. I'm still not sure hes going to be completely on the right path-when he came to us last summer, effectively he was in last chance saloon and it was self evident he never wanted to go near that shit hole Middlesborough again. So he had to make it work. Now the gloves are off. He'll have shed loads of cash to spend, 3 years mapped out for him and his old south London mucker to lead him astray. I mean what could go wrong at 21??.

We wouldn’t have paid 7m on deadline day though, we’d have paid it last week.

Although we did have to negotiate to keep him from being recalled in January so we probably would’ve paid it then. If we didn’t go up, sell him to Spurs for 20m now.

Yes, thats a valid point. I think we probably dropped one not just buying him in Jan and having done with it to be honest.

We can take Jones for £10m and plough the other £10m we’ve saved on Djed elsewhere.

I think our FA Cup games on mainstream TV against Arsenal and Leicester put him in the spotlight. He did fantastically well in those matches and neutrals I work with were raving about him.

Wembley I thought he showed some good defensive qualities.

Will be sorry to see him go and wish him well. Think Cooper has got the best out of him (along with a few other players).

Except 'Boro knew they were going to get more just by leaving him with us at the end of the season so it was a busted flush by the January window.
I also wouldn't be surprised if there weren't conversations between Djed, his agent and Boro at that stage to say that the condition of him staying in January was that he was sold to the highest bidder in the summer and if he didn't like that he was coming back....
