David Squires Illustrated History of Football

Some of you may be familiar with Squires regular cartoons for The Guardian. He's now got a book out covering the history of football from Cavemen to modern day.

My copy turned up today so I flicked straight to find the 1979 era

Interesting to read about Cloughie. I was thinking about him last night when Andy Townsend was expounding his theory that when the players can guess what the manager is going to do next either the manager or player needs to move on. I immediately thought of Cloughie and wondered if perhaps his unpredictability is one reason he stayed at NFFC for so long. I know most of us can think other several other reasons, but that's a good one to start with.

I'd actually forgotten the axe and Don Revie's desk story. Had to look it up. When someone has so many good stories you always forget a few.
