The Australian national team's left back is currently a free agent after leaving Blackpool at the end of last season. He was signed by Steve McClaren for FC Twente in 2009 and was their first choice left back as they won the Dutch title, however his season was cut short by injuries.

This one has gone under the radar a little bit, but don't be surprised if he signs for us in the next week.

Not too sure if I want him here, judging by his games played on Wikipedia, he must have some serious injury problems (he has played 98 games at club level and he is 27). However he was voted the Australian teams player of the year ahead of Tim Cahill, and he looked brilliant at the world cup.

Change of manager had him on the outer at Blades. Struggled with his shoulder at Twente then decided to take up the Premier League offer when it became available at Blackpool. Many Australian fans questioned the wisdom of the move and he found himself having to prove himself all over again. A reoccurence of his shoulder injury when he was getting back into the reckoning under Holloway saw his season end.

Started as a left winger and converted to a left back for the Australian national team, he can play both to Championship standards. Needs regular football and would be an ideal move for him. Flexibility would be an asset to Forest. Has managed some cracking strikes at national level.

According to hours of research, Stephen Crainey and David Carney are different people.

Crainey has signed a new deal.

Carney has not.

This is a simple thing to understand.

Hey... As the regular saying goes "don't shoot the messenger" the info I found points to him being a freebie but was just saying someone stated he had already signed back on blackpools books.....

As is the difference between forest transfers, and "down the pub - forum games" which is where you should put threads like this where you've just plucked a name off football manager and invented a link.

Carney weighs up offers
19 July 2011-SBS EXCLUSIVE

Clubless Australia defender David Carney is confident his future will be resolved within the next 14 days as he continues his rehabilitation from shoulder surgery in England.

"I've had some big money offers from a few places, both in England and elsewhere, and I'm just weighing a few things up," the 29-times capped Socceroos player told The World Game on Tuesday.

"It will just be a question of passing a medical, and I'm sure there will no problems on that score," he said.

"After that I'll hopefully be pushing to get back in the Australian squad for September's start to FIFA World Cup qualifying."

Released by Blackpool in a post-season cost-cutting exercise after the club's relegation to the Championship last season after just a year in the top flight, Carney is looking for stability after short stints at Sheffield United (two seasons), Norwich (on loan), and FC Twente before his move to the Seasiders.

"Ideally I'd like to stay in England," added Carney, who began his football life as an apprentice at Everton before making his name with Sydney FC during the dawn of the A-League.

"The shoulder is feeling good now (after reconstructive surgery in Australia back in April). It's meant to be a six month rehab but I'm ahead of schedule," Carney said.

"I'm running again now and I'm about five weeks away from being near to full fitness.

"There's no way I'll be fit for the (Socceroos) game against Wales (at Cardiff City Stadium on August 10) but September is looking promising for me.

"The main priority is getting fit and finding the right club and then everything should take care of itself.

"I'm sure I'll put pen to paper within the next fortnight.

"I'm just concentrating on finding the club that's the best fit, and getting the shoulder right.

"I'm not too stressed about it things at all. It's good that I've got a few options.

"Within the next couple of months or so I should be firing again at club level and also for the national team, if selected.

Carney is one of three front-line Socceroos players still uncontracted for next season, with skipper Lucas Neill and the mercurial Harry Kewell currently in the same boat.

"It's not ideal (being without a club) but these things happen and sometimes you have to be patient and just wait for the right opportunity to come along," he added.

"I know Harry and Lucas are in similar positions but I have no doubt they will soon be sorted out because everybody knows what quality players they are."

On his departure from Blackpool - for whom he made just 11 appearances opening on the left side of midfield - Carney said: "When they went down there was always going to be a bit of clear out to cut wages across the board and I was caught up in that.

"It was a shame because I was very happy there. It was great experience getting a taste of the Premier League but unfortunately we went down and everything changed.

Carney, who scored Australia's equaliser in its momentous 2-1 win over Germany in Monchengladbach in March, remains a key cog in coach Holger Osieck's line-up at left back, though he is coming under some pressure from FC Utrecht's former Brisbane Roar wingback Michael Zullo, who didn't look out of place in the friendlies against New Zealand and Serbia in June.

"It's good to see we're getting some more depth in that position," Carney added.

"Every team needs a number of players for every position and Australia is no different."
