Danny Welbeck

A very good and intelligent player.

Though he's not got the finishing to be an out and out striker, centre of gravity to be a number 10, pace to be a winger or tackling ability to be a centre mid.

So I've no idea where he fits in.

He reminds me a bit of a David Luiz type of player. Very good player is Luiz, but can't excel in a position because of various faults.

That said, I don't rate Welbeck anywhere near Luiz.

He is so so overrated. A few seasons ago he showed some real signs of becoming a great player, but he just doesn't seem to have any real qualities anymore. He's pushed off the ball easily, his shooting is sloppy, and he makes a lot of passing errors. The only reason he plays for England is because he plays for Manchester United.

It's more to do with the fact that no other young English players get played in the Premiership.

Man United, to their credit have normally played Youth Academy players rather than fill the team with cheap imports.

I went to see Chelsea Under 21's v Tottenham Under 21's on Friday, less than half the players on show were British.

Where as that maybe true, I can't help but think that if Welbeck played for Fulham or Reading he wouldn't be anywhere near the England team.

I get what your saying

But if he played for Fulham or reading wouldn't that make him even wanker than he currently is?

A lot of people will hate Sir Alex but in any given season it could be argued that another club has a better squad yet somehow he still managed to make United the best club of the past 20 years.

That's why Moyes won't succeed, Chelsea and Man City have had better squads (City 4 years, Chelsea 2 years) but yet united won 3 of the last 4 prem titles.

Probably so, and despite the fact he has some fantastic players around him in the current United team, he only managed to score 2 goals last season was it?

We need to be focussing on the inexplicable reasons Danny Welbeck gets selected for Man Utd - as he only turns out for England due to the fact he plays for Man Utd.

Ferguson likes to put faith in the players he publicly endorses, so continued to select him, although I'm not quite sure what Moyes will think of him.

If things continue, then this thread might be amusing by the end of the season.

:snack:

I'd be happy to be proved wrong, but the transfer window will shut, Rooney will stay at United, Chicarito will feature more and Welbeck won't get a look in.

Ah that was a great show!

But no, in all seriousness, I really don't rate Welbeck. His second for United the other day was a beaut mind you. If he can consistently score goals for United this season and next, I will start to change my opinion, but for me he ain't a patch on danny sturridge.
