West Brom and England striker Cyrille Regis has died at the age of 59, the Professional Footballers' Association has announced.

The forward became famous for teaming up with two other West Brom black players, Laurie Cunningham and Brendon Batson, to form the Three Degrees.

This is a tragic loss to all fans of my generation. The Three Degrees were iconic.

RIP Cyrille

Sad news, top bloke by all accounts. Looked after himself too, 59 is no age.

The most depressing day of the year gets off to a shit start.

RIP

Sad news. That West Brom team we’re a powerful and exciting team with bags of flair. If it hadn’t been for us and Liverpool being so strong they’d have won a few trophies.

They were a great team of that era and “Big Cyrille” was a massive part of that.

There’s a wonderful book called Samba in the Smethwick End, which is all about that side and is well worth a read.

Desperately sad news.

Cyril Regis was an awesome centre forward and by all accounts a genuinely nice bloke as well.

He will be missed.

Very sad news. And such a young age.
Great footballer, and part of of such an exciting West Brom side of the late 70s.
RIP Cyrille.

"Nice one Cyrille, nice one son...nice one Cyrille, let's have another one."

An iconic player when I was young.

59 is no age.

RIP and farewell, Sir.

Grew up around where I did and went to the same Secondary School.

The teachers who were still there used to talk about him so fondly and that was around 20 years after he'd left. Other teachers clearly had stories passed on to them by other teachers.

Shows you the impact he had and what a nice guy he must have been.

This news made me so sad this morning. RIP Great Man.

They are saying that a cardiac arrest was the likely cause....at such a young age that is tragic.

I am not a fan of minutes silences but Cyrille deserves one on Saturday because he was a such a prominent and respected figure in the game.

Re: Cyril Regis. Rip

Spot on, he was a bustling old style striker, its one of the things I miss about the modern game. Reminds me of Hugh Johns commentary when Cyril was playing for WBA RIP big Cyril

Re: Cyril Regis. Rip

It was a tight call who would be the first black player to play for England, Cyril , Brendon Batson or our own Viv

That man ACTUALLY had springs in his heels!

What he had to endure and what he did for the game cannot be underestimated.

RIP big fella
