Current state of the squad

The team that Warburton put out last season has absolutely no basis on which to base the one starting this season.

His first game was against Derby, then we saw ourselves in an eventual relegation fight due to the lack of confidence and 5 years' worth of shambolic ownership resulting in a manager tally bigger than Jason Lee's pinapple haircut.

Now the slate is wiped lean. We endured the dark time. Warburton will not be looking for his team to have the same qualities as the one he picked in April and May.

He will have learnt a lot about the squad. I am very confident that the coming season will be far more fruitful in terms of success. It's way too early to start panicking.

And, above all else, we will make genuine progress if the current manager gets more than one transfer window in which to impose his brand of footballing ethics.

We need to fix the spine of the team before anything else. If we hold on to Britt then we just need a decent central midfield player and centre back and we'll have a structure we can build the team around. It's fine to have squad players and change things up if the core of your team is solid and can be relied upon to play the majority of games in a season.

If we get to the end of the summer window with a left back, a central midfielder and not having lost any of our good players like Britt or Brereton then we would have had a good summer, in my opinion.

It is unrealistic for the club to expect to be near promotion this season in my opinion, I think the board have clearly said to him and to expect to challenge next season after a proper squad overhaul could have taken place.

Can't see that happening.

Think Britt will be sold.

Wish we kept our business dealings a bit quieter although presumably the selling club is to blame for that.

We're being linked with a fair few players but we face tough competition for their signatures making it difficult to get deals done.

Not worried quite yet as plenty of time to do business still but the side is still a fair way off what's required.

Tough competition or not, the injections of (expensive) quality, especially in midfield, needs to take place before the America trip.

Qualty is good, but they don't have to be expensive.

Heck Antonio was a fairly modest 1.5m, and look at him now.

The only thing was he'd never proven himself at championship level so there was no guarantee he'd be a success.

You pay a premium once they prove themselves.

We need to try and identify potential quality players in order to get a bargain as can't stretch to paying top dollar for many players already successful at this level.

Left Back is still the main priority in my book. If we don't make additions there, we either start with someone (Cohen, Lichaj, Mancienne) having to play out of position - or Fox who has never looked anything but hopeless as a left-back (should be considered a Center-back now imho).

Or Traore, who is the only actual left back on the books ATM

Ah, somehow forgot about him - at least we can bank on him for 5 matches.

I've got a weird confidence in him playing a large majority of games this season. Give him a good run and monitor his recovery periods and I think he'll come good

Hope you're right! If that were the case he could establish himself as one of the best players in our team, IMHO.

We need a left back.
A experienced Centre back.
A defensive midfielder.
Two wingers.

They're all a must to even think about mid table.

~20 games from troare?

that means at least ~25 games from someone else...

MASE

Up-Front
We need an attacking LB
An attacking RB

A defensive midfielder
A Right Winger

That should get you a balanced team with adequate cover.

Then you could argue for another Centre mid.

Iacovitti can fill in for some of those. Lichaj could slot in with Gabriel coming in at RB as an alternative option. If we're struggling at left back through winter then we can dip into loan market.

Left back not essential imo. Nice to have, but priority has to be central midfielder and another winger.

Andreas Bouchalakis, of Olympiakos, according to local rumors is flying today to seal a loan to NFFC.

he is a CM with good technique but it always seemed as not fast enough. he is good in transition and our managers always seemed to like him but he never made it to the next level

Wish youd stop sending us your shit, if hes not fast enough for greek football he wont be fast enough for championship football.

Still amazing when you look at the squad and see that we rely on so many players who are so often injured,

MM, MM, JH, CC, DV, AT, even Fox, and Britt,

What we don't need is "make do" with players filling in a unnatural position.
