OK just had a copy of the cardiff match arrived in a FED EX package (what are friends for?).

Don't want to repeat everything that has been said elsewhere but it must be said that in spite of all the early season hysteria on this board and in general the defence appears to be holding as well as or better than most of the defences in this league. Figures don't lie and we are currently the fifth tightest defence in the league conceding an average of 0.93 goals per game.

Now a few weeks ago it was the accepted wisdom that we could not compete in the top half of the table without a new Central defender and a new left back. Current form suggests that is not the case.

In watching this match and previous matches when able it seems that Chris is being included as an intergal part of the matchday team which would suggest that he is generally held in high regard by BD.

Now Chris was a top class central defender in his day and I just wonder if it is his coaching that we have to thank for the improvement in the defensive performance.

Billy promoted him from the academy and Billy is always rattling on about the importance of the training regime.

Thoughts?

I was wondering this the other day. Billy brought a lot of his own staff in and let a lot go. It's now interesting to see Chris on the bench in matches, you wouldn't of seen that under CC. The players seem to have a really good relationship with him too !

I remember from an evening with BD, that he brought all the coaching staff along. They were clearly all getting on great, and BD was at pains to make that so. No coincidence I'm sure.

I've always maintained that the defenders we have are talented enough players to play in a good unit at this level. Wilson, Chambers, Gunter especially are very young and inexperienced and they still might lack the occasional bit of experience (Cardiff's goal for example, Gunter should have stepped up and played Bothroyd clearly offside), but they are growing in confidence with each game and have found their feet.

Though Chambers is a good lad and a decent player, I'd be worried if one of Wes or Wilson got an injury now. They're a perfect combo with Wes' strength and Wilson's pace, both decent in the air. As a pair, they have a lot going for them, the only thing they do lack is leadership, but that's why we brought in McKenna and Camp. It's amazing what a bit of organisation and leadership can do :)

Excellent ! I love watching them all celebrate together when we score ! There are a few there but he always seems to chat to Ned and chris before making any changes. nou doubt they both have a very important role to play during the matches too. Maybe ned is the attacking coach seeing as he was a very good striker himself ?

It seems to be a theme recently at Forest that coaches progress through the ranks.

Ian McP started off with the academy, then to the reserves then the 1st team, Pemberton did the same and now Fairclough. It's good to see and will no doubt help the academy lads that progress with them.

I think this appointment seems to be bearing fruit already.

I know it's early days but I feel there has been a noticable improvement this season.

Well done Billy.

Wes, Chambers and Wilson all had a tendency to lunge in and get caught out last season before Davies came in, maybe due to how CC was teaching them to tackle??? I dont know but this season all three of them are standing firm, not diving in for challanges they wont make and are generally looking more confident on the ball too. I dont feel as nervous when teams attack us anymore, last season id be nervous everytime they got in our half.

I still feel nervous this season when Chambers is playing in the center , he was hopeless in the 2nd half against derby and looked very shaky and dodgy when derby started attacking down his side - let's not forget his outstanding back header for derby's first goal , his miscued slice across the penalty box and his heading back out to derby players . He also looked a bit shaky against Tudgay when forest played against wednesday so yes , i still feel nervous when we have chambers in the middle when we are under the cosh.
