According to Football Manager the fee to take him to Wolfsburg was £8m so it could be a biggie this one. I admit i know nothing about him but it could be that they see him as first choice in a few months / next season.

On my save he went to RB Leipzig for £35m from Wolfsburg in 2032....

He also has over 100 caps for Belgium.

Not to put a downer on the enthusiasm of others, but it's a No Thanks on Vranckx from me. Not what we need IMO, which is creative players now (urgently), especially in midfield! Vranckx for Garner in the team for example would be a downgrade and make us dysfunctional I really think (not to mention we're playing at a higher level).

Just my opinion/perspective. We could be at risk of putting a lot on Brennan Johnson and AN Other in terms of making things happen if we're not careful.

Surely Vranckx has played at a higher level than Garner?

We need several midfielders, not just one.

Maybe I'm jumping the gun too much based on video, but I'm just going more on what type of players they are, and the 'on ball' qualities (plus maybe passing and moving capabilities - he seems more of a holder and potentially a bit slow to turn with the ball as he's quite heavy set it seems).

I'm also thinking about the fact we play 3 CBs and two wing-backs (or attacking full-backs basically), and just thinking if we leave all the creating to Johnson and say MGW we could be a bit easy to snuff out, and it might be difficult to retain possession (including on counter attacks).

Maybe the plan wouldn't be to buy Vranckx and play him alongside Yates and go with an 'in your face' barrier in front of 3 CBs, but maybe that's what I was getting worried about (I could enjoy watching us play last season, not only for the results, with Garner in there by the way, and obviously we did well including vs PL teams albeit with some caveats about those games)! I don't feel that would only be a questionable watch (which I think about, but I understand others not so much if the results are good) but also just too one dimensional to do well in a top league. MGW isn't especially fast either I'm thinking, and Taiwo seems more a finisher than all-round player I think?

Sorry for the doom though lol! Like I say only an opinion, and since I managed to mis-read how many non-homegrown players should be in the squad maybe my opinion isn't worth a lot!

That's a fair point. Maybe I'm just getting to the stage where it's "ok, we got a defender, now another defender, and another one....now a defensive midfielder too...noooo!!!".

I'm sure we'll be buying an AM, whether it is MGW or not. Maybe two. I'm just wondering about what happens in the Garner role, and hoping it goes to someone at least as good on the ball and progressive in his thinking as he is, if not himself.

As an alternative to Yates, Vranckx in the squad can be ok maybe, and Yates is injured right now to be fair. But I think that about O'Brien moreso than him being the Garner role player, although I know that could be arguable and he's definitely decent on the ball and can drive forwards with it.

with vranckx , onana and Boubacar Traore being linked , all 3 fit our recruitment criteria but until they are signed , it's still pie in the sky talk. for now especially onana..

Would have to hope that this player doesn't go the way of Panzo, Mbe Soh and Laryea (all very decent players btw) and languish on the fringes of the squad.

Weird how the commentator is in full "foreign" (presumably Flemish?) and then at 8 secs appears to say in English "off the ball (bar?) what a miss" and carries on in their own language... I know English has many similarities with some languages in that area like Frisian but it does seem to just be plain ol' English as the rest is most certainly not English

I'd guess just based on his style of play that he'd be seen as someone in the Yates role. High motor, disruptive, and physical.

I'd think it would be Vranckx, Yates, O'Brien and another creative CM. With the former 2 competing and the latter 2 competing.

Then CAM added separately

Looking at his playing time he seemed to see fewer minutes in the 2nd half of the season.

Any reason to this German fans?

Us signing a more defensive midfielder is almost as important as a 10 for me, we won't be able to play every game with a 2 in midfield. This guy looks to have great athleticism that is required to get up and down.

He's a beast.

Could well be a genuine world class midfielder from what I have seen.

This would be our best signing if we pull it off. Will be worth serious cash after a couple of years of Prem football.
