Britt to do the Congo

Hopefully he'll be tapped up by the England U21's first.

Can he not obtain a mysterious injury like Daniel Sturridge does whenever England have a friendly to play?

Personally I think he'll reject the call up. Reckon he's got the belief in him that one day he'll be good enough to play for England. Whether he does or not is another matter, but I do think it's important to get him involved in the U21s setup - it's not like we're absolutely blessed with top young strikers at the minute.

I agree.

No reason why he shouldn't - he's from there. But he's got as good a shot at England as any young English striker. Of course, we're maybe going to see two things - us missing him dreadfully and not going up in part due to his absence, then him f***ing off because he wants to play in the prem and 'we didn't get promoted'. Conjecture, of course.

With no disrespect to any individual, I'd like to see players f***ing off to something for a couple of months mid-season done away with. If you sign for a club you should be expected to work your full season at the club and play internationally during their international breaks. I'm sure, in Britt's case, there'd be plenty of Congolese clubs who would love to have him play for them.

Didn't he move to England when he was like three? I'm sure he considers himself English more than Congolese.

8 months old and grew up in London. He's as English as any of us.

Interestingly, in August he was named in the Congo squad for the African Cup qualifying tournament but decided to withdraw.

I don't think we should worry too much about this one.

Huge blow if he decides to play for them. But it is annoying that we finally have the 20 a season guy and we're still in bloody 9th.

Fantastic to watch and grounded and decent bloke that he is I don't think Britt will play for England. I don't particularly care about England but I think there will always be strikers that need less spoon feeding. I've not seen much that Andre Silenzi couldn't have tapped in so far.

Leeds had one who scored about 27 last season and had a shocking season.

Too much is made of having someone who scores 20 goals all by themselves. It can certainly help, but it's not the be and end all.

As for him playing for Congo, in an interview the other day it appeared to me as though he still hopes to play for the u21's. But if he does choose Congo, fair play to him.

Maybe we can get a drongo like Ugo Ehiogo to umbongo Assombalonga's congo with a songo?

As we said last season with the numerous Hull type examples, a 20 goal striker guarantees nothing. We were higher this time last season without one and with a set of "poor" strikers.

Why do you think that is Alf?

Hopefully they havent watched him all season until last Saturday, in which case they won't think he's good enough.

Hopefully they will come and watch him this Saturday!

Where's me hammer?
If he does decide to play for them with the stupid shitty african nations at a stupid time of the season id sell him if a reasonable offer came in.

I was just remembering how it affected our form when Guediourra went to the AfCoN. I hope Britt doesn't go. Without his goals we'd be struggling.

Hmm, spend two months in a disease ridden, war-torn african country with a bunch of players you don't know and who speak a different language and get paid a (relative) pittance for the privilege.

Or stay in sunny (ahem) Nottingham with all your mates.

Tough choice.

People forget that he's gone from top scorer in league one at 20 to top scorer in the championship at 21. To think he might one day play for England isn't so much a pipe dream than perfectly logical.

According to Wiki, his dad played internationally for DR Congo (was Zaire then) too. Couldn't blame him for wanting to follow in his footsteps.

It would be interesting to know if the reported 5m rising to 8m fee had any clauses meaning we pay less if he did go missing for 2 months playing for them. Probably not but you would think it would affect the price we were willing to pay. Maybe Pleat was right

Withdrew through injury.

Yea but you can't deny Assombalonga has had a great impact? It's the rest of the team, particularly midfield where we've had problems, and once again hampered by injuries to key players like Reid and Hobbs. It feels like this is a season of transition with ups and downs after all the upheaval last year and change in the summer and we may not see the real fruits of what Pearce is doing and has done Til next year but one thing you can't deny is Britt has been a great signing, regardless of our league position and already scored more than all the dross last year,

Of course but, just looking at the team in isolation, I much prefer a more football orientated top 6 team with a higher scoring midfield, than a more direct orientated mid-table team who rely on two players to get all the goals. I think it's more entertaining, more satisfying, and less risky (in terms of relying on 1 or 2 particular players). Just my personal preference though.

I remember Cox, Raddy, Mackie and other so called rejects running rings around Burnley last year. Reid & Hobbs injuries have definitely hindered our play, but I still think we're capable of much more from our midfield. It may take time though as Matt suggests.
