Brice Lauriche Samba - „Magic Hands“

It's reassuring to see that the Daily Mail has already decided our fate next season....

"Samba would have been a crucial part of the club's attempts to battle relegation next season".

I'd say Pope is a better keeper. I reckon in terms of pure shot stopping, he probably saves 3-5 more goals over the course of a season than Samba. But there's no way he's cheaper, even discounting the transfer fee. He's also not as good with his feet, I doubt there's many keepers out there that are better than Samba with their feet. Samba's also got that weird x-factor/aura that I don't think you can account for statistically but is invaluable to our side. I just don't think Pope's worth it. Presumably Samba's on at least 25% more after promotion even if it is only a year. Offer him a contract, with a relegation deduction but with a relegation release clause. If he accepts, great. If he wants more then say you've got to prove yourself in the Prem, but you'll have a chance to prove yourself as our number 1. He's more expensive to replace and not worth selling.

I would assume this part of negotiating, unless our offer was really that bad (or his expectations were far too high), guess we'll find out soon enough, wouldn't panic (or rush to judgement) just yet though

I’d like to point out he’s in St Tropez on holiday and unlikely to be at the negotiating table at the moment- smells like bs

It'll be agent talk...

The discussion probably happened pre playoff final.

No coincidence a "Forest after Pope" rumour has coincided with "Brice to leave Forest" rumour.

Both sides probably playing hardball.

"Nottingham Forest Are Premier League"
Sadly, I suspect Samba's Forest career is over.

Don't get me wrong, I think him a fine keeper and think he'd do well in the Prem, but I don't like the signs of this at all.

To be fair, any player is free to reject any contract offer for any reason they see fit, or indeed for no reason at all. I just dislike the way it has been made public though. Although Samba didn't himself criticise the club, he is responsible for his connection's behaviour in my view and on this occasion it was at best ill-judged and falls below acceptable levels. Negotiations should always be conducted and concluded in private and to bring up the issue of "respect", while allowing the exact opposite to embarrass the club isn't acceptable in my view.

We can be relatively sure that following the recent euphoria, the club have sat down to put together what they consider a fair offer, including input from Steve Cooper, Dane Murphy et al. If Samba feels the offer is insufficient, he's of course free to reject it; but it doesn't automatically follow that the club will make an improved offer.

If Samba wishes to forego his Premier League chance and Forest career for a higher wage elsewhere then that's fine, but despite the large pending cash injection, Forest is a club that has learned the hard way the downfalls of making over generous and unsustainable contract offers.

The smart move at the moment as I see it is to do nothing further on it for the time being. Let Samba see the talk of replacements and new arrivals in the papers like everyone else, but from a position where he will not be involved in something he has undoubtedly worked very hard towards.

The objective is not to humiliate him, but to send out a very clear message that no player is bigger than the club, that the club itself has fundamentally changed and that although some may be willing to gamble large sums on huge contrscts, Forest are in it for the long haul and only want players with similar ambition.

I am still puzzled about how calling a player for contract renewal, one year before the end of it, with increased salary, can be considered as sign of disrespect.

Furthermore they are called negotiations for a reason.

Now, to tell you the truth, Samba is pretty lucky this is not happening in Olympiakos. If the manager of a player would leak negotiation details to media like that, then two things could happen. Either the player could kiss the offer goodbye or change manager and perhaps do the talking himself instead of the manager if he would like to stick with him.

I would imagine we have a wage structure for the Premier League.

I would imagine we have a salary cap - Even for the Premier League.

I just do not see us throwing money away like confetti.

Everyone at the club will have their place within that wage structure and cap.

If someone wants outside of their salary position I would imagine they will be let go and a replacement bought in, most likely at a profit to the club.

In a game of 'who blinks first' I don't see Marinakis/Murphy blinking at all.

Club needs to be prudent and sensible. Players need to be sensible.

I'd like to see a reasonable raise for all players and a 'stopping up / league position' type bonus be added at the close of the season.

I'm sure that would guarantee maximum teamwork / effort on the pitch

Unlikely I know, but ever the optimist

ps Samba - if true then thanks for everything this year and remember that the grass isn't always greener elsewhere...

I cannot be bothered reading all the speculative posts nor can I be bothered to research the media.
Eventually the facts will appear but until they are posted on the official web site.
Nothing in the media can be believed at the moment.

No player is too good for Nottingham Forest. I trust that a reasonable offer has been made if we can believe all that has been reported.

If he wants to leave, then leave. I only want players at our club who want to play for us.

Thank you Samba for your contributions but if you want to leave, I wish thee well and bid thee farewell.

Everything will work out for the best under Cooper and Murphy.

Trust in them and no matter what, we'll be in a good place.

He just wants his arse kissing in the form of a fat wage then.

If he prices himself out of a new deal we move on.

Absolute key for the way we gained promotion this season and I’m not even talking about the penno heroics.

Agents make more money by moving clients on so I’d guess Samba’s agent is the driver behind this.

But yeah, I agree, deep breath and trust the process.
